BGEE won't minimize to tray

DafojkDafojk Member Posts: 111
Hi, I'm running windows8 with start8 from stardock. BGEE wont minimuze to tray, so if i want to go read this great forum i have to shut down BG entirely. If i minimize, the tray does appear, but BG always stays on top.

Not sure if its related to win8 in general, or only because I have Start8 installed.

    Current behaviour:
On Win7 x64 the keyboard stroke "Alt + Tab" shows the task bar, but the game screen stays on top of all desktop elements (unpaused), preventing user interaction with other programs.

    Expected behaviour:
On all windows OS the keyboard stroke "Alt + Tab" should be registered as a system command that pauses the program, minimizes the game window to the taskbar and let the user regain sight and control of the desktop.

This topic might be merged with klatu's BG:EE Bug Report "Alt + F4 does not exit the application on Windows OS"

    ====

    UPDATE:
Problem only exists if BG:EE is started whilst a second monitor is connected. Maybe someone else can approve/disprove this behaviour?

ALT + TAB is not working for me ONLY if there are no other windows open. The 'windows key' is always working.

This is not a bug for me, it's a feature :)

It's the same for Windows 7 too.

I can reproduce and thus confirm this behaviour on Windows 7 x64. I would love to be able to minimize the game to the tray, so if anyone knows how I can do that, please let me (us) know! Or, should this be a bug, can someone go through the proper channels to report this bug (or tell me how to do that)?

It is the same for me with WIN7. I could only minimize it using Ctrl+Alt+Del, and then select the monitoring tool.

It’s a known bug, present in many if not all versions of the game as far as I know. ;)

I only have this problem when a second screen is connected while starting BG:EE. Do we have this in common? (using Win7)

With only one display it works (although it doesn't pause the game while minimized - but that's another issue)

@Durlachion. Yes we have this in common, I too have dual monitor.

Yeah I have dual monitor too.

Only way I can get it to minimise to tray is changing it to windowed mode when I want to minimise, then reenable fullscreen when I'm back. But then it just seems easier to just save and exit...

Indeed, when I disable my dual monitor set-up (using hot-key Win+P) I can minimize the game without any trouble, so thank you for that comment! The fact that it doesn't pause the game while minimized is a minor issue, if you ask me, or at least a lot less annoying then the minimizing-bug. It would be nice to see a fix though, but for now I'm quite content with the workaround, and will pay the price -- having to pause the game manually -- gladly.
