Random Wild Surges

in Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition
I am being plagued by random Wild Surges from spell casting by NPCs in my party, despite the fact that Neera was removed from the party and we are nowhere near her woods. It has occurred all over, including the Copper Coronet while spelling up. I logged out of the game and back in, and thought it had stopped, but now we are in the WIndspear Hills and it has started up again. So far it looks like only Jahera is affected, but it's too early in the scenario to tell.

I have checked all the status sheets for the NPCs and nothing seems amiss. Someone suggested that perhaps some item was causing it. The only item I have that I got from the Wild Mages is The Brick, that silly hurled weapon.

Has anyone run into this problem before? It's rather annoying.

    Might wanna check the description of The Brick. It includes something called an "Aura of Wild Magic".
