alignment changes in the Hell Trials

Merry Xmas everyone :)

I was wondering your opinion on the Hell Trials - you see a Neutral or Good character can change to evil if he chooses an evil response to the trials. That's fair enough, but it seems a bit limited to me. For instance, perhaps an evil character could do the reverse if he chooses the non-evil options throughout all the trials? I know Hell is supposed to be a corrupting place, but it makes sense to me. What do you think? :)
