Stone Menhirs + Question about wands

in Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear
Is there a way of avoiding the Stone Mehir quest to bug? I am not sure if it just me, but sometimes it works and sometimes the ghost never appears. Are there any hidden prequisites i am missing other than signing to the 6 stones and selecting the correct chat option?.

Also, are wands/scrolls affected by the -saving throw bonus of specialist mages? (EG: Dyanheir's Invoker bonus affects wand of fire?)

    I've never personally seen the Menhir quest bug myself, but, have you tried going back to the first stone and re-singing at that one after getting all the others? I think I've seen someone say that worked for them.
