AC -30?

Almost two decades ago, I played a happy little swashbuckler called Carleff. Near the end of the game, I noticed his AC had dropped to about -30 (with armor equipped). I know swashies get bonuses to AC while gaining levels, but surely not to -30? I didn't have internet in those days, so I always thought it was probably the device of Lum the Mad that did the trick. Apparently not, though. Anyone have an idea what happened?

I think this was being spoken about in this thread. There are some exceptions to the cap of -20 AC like Dexterity bonuses and Single Weapon Style. There was one post that formulated how to reach -35 or -38 AC, so that should be possible. Might check the linked thread for more information.

The original Baldur's Gate II had the AC capped at -24 (plus Single Weapon Style, for -26). BG2:EE has lowered the cap by 2 points to -26/-28.
You can reach it, if you prioritize it. Having a bard in your party helps, as does playing a class with a natural bonus to your AC.
