[Bug] Garrick has no spells?

Hello! this is my first time posting here and i'm kind of desperate.

I'm playing baldur's gate for the first time and I have garrick on my team but I think he's bugged, I got him to lvl 4 and hasnt learned any spells (I just discovered the mage book, I'm a total noob) and when I check garrick's spell book it tells me that I have 0/2 memorized spells but I dont see any spells on the book ??.

i'm really confused please help ; _ ;

    Hello, welcome to Baldur's Gate.

    Mages and bards are special among spellcasters in that they don't naturally learn spells on their own. You need to memorize scrolls then apply them to your available spell slots, so go scroll hunting!

    Omg thank you!! for a moment I tought I had to kick him out, I've been wasting scrolls :s thank you!! :heart:

    All mages start with one or more spell slots, and are thus given spells even at level 1. For a PC, this means you get to choose two level 1 spells at character creation, or three if you're a specialist. For an NPC, the spells are chosen in advance.

    Bards, on the other hand, don't get their first spell slot until level 2, so they don't get any free spells in their spellbook if created or recruited at level 1.

    In BGEE, the script that gives newly recruited companions XP to catch up to the protagonist also gives them spells for their spellbook. For example, if you wait to rescue Xan until you have over 32K experience, he gains spells up to and including Dire Charm. This also applies to Garrick; if you wait to recruit him, he'll come with a few spells known.
