Are achievements actually build into the game or are they exclusive to steam?

I kinda like getting achievements, but I bought directly from Beamdog. So I can't play this on steam.

    You can request a Steam key if you have purchased the game via Beamdog. Send an email to support@beamdog.com from the address with which you purchased the game on Beamdog and ask for a Steam key.
