Does the circlet of Netheril do anything in Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn or only the expansion?

Is it possible to get the Circlet of Netheril (found in level 3 of Watcher's Keep I believe) to do anything in Baldur's Gate II? It doesn't seem to do absolutely anything until it's upgraded and I read the only way to get the Ioun Stone is in the Throne of Baal expansion is that true?

    Indeed. That ioun stone is found in Saradush. Also, only Cespenar can perform the upgrades - so the bard's gloves and thieves' hood you also find there are equally useless, even though you likely already have the upgrade materials.

    Some tweak mods let Cromwell & Cespenar share recipes, which is convenient but will impact slightly on the power curve (as Watcher's Keep generally does for SoA).
