New Party

Dear all... i‘m back after 15 years and Could See that IWD changed a lot in the EE Edition also compared to baldurs gate. What Party Setup would you guys recommend for a walkthrough. I want to see most of the game. Maybe some Special quests which can only be accepted by a Special Class ?!? I read a lot of Posts here but most of the Time some information were missing ... F/D ok F/C ... how many Levels in which Class and Why? Same for F/M/T ... Why Not pure mage or pure thief?

Br,

At the Moment im Planning with

    L Neutral - Half Elf - F/D
    L Good - Gnome - F/C
    N Evil - Half Elf - Skald
    L Neutral - Elf - Archer

Any recommendations for the Last 2 Spots or changes at the actual Party Setup?

    Sorc SC? Or any Rogue?

I'd personally take at a thief (kit or multiclass) plus a mage or sorcerer. You can even combine them into one character with a multi or dual class thief/mage if you don't want a single class. The thief is just because certain areas have a lot of traps. If you're okay with setting off traps, then healing, or casting defensive spells beforehand, then you can probably get by without one. The mage or sorc, even if you don't want a spellthrower, can learn Web and improved haste, two extremely good spells in this game. Edit: your skald can learn these too, though a mage or sorc will have more casts.

For some of your class questions... for multiclasses, leveling is automatic. You don't choose which class to level in. I think pure mage is fine, just not as powergamey as some other options, and due to lack of scrolls, they'll take longer to learn some spells than a sorcerer.

With thief, the main issue is that rogues aren't really good at anything besides thief skills unless buffed up. In many other rpgs, rogue characters are geared towards ranged weapons, but in these games, that role is kind of split up between Rangers and Thieves. It's not impossible to use a single class thief. I used an assassin in my own recent playthrough. However, against high-level enemies, they'll be getting very few hits in unless the enemies are held or webbed.

Thx ... ok then i‘ll take a - Chaotic neutral - Half Elf - Sorc.

Is Skald as a Bard a Good Choice?

And what Could you guys recommend for a rogue?

I goofed on my last comment. Your skald can actually cast web and improved haste. Overlooked that. A mage or sorc is still good but not essential for casting specifically those two spells. Sorry.

Skald or plain Bard are probably the best bard choices for this game. Skald for offense, Bard for defense/healing from War Chant of Sith.

I had a lot of fun using my assassin, but for gameplay, going multiclass thief+something else or dual-classing a Fighter to Thief or a Thief kit to Mage is probably the best option.

I'd suggest a fighter/mage/thief and a sorcerer for your last two slots.

I‘m still Not 100% happy with that grp. Do you guys think there is a Lack of Healing?
Or missing a Real Tank like Dwarfen Defender?

    L Neutral - Half Elf - F/D

    L Good - Gnome - F/C

    N Evil - Half Elf - Skald

    L Neutral - Elf - Archer

    C Neutral - Elf - Sorcerer

    L Neutral - Halfling - F/T

    15 years! Welcome back!
Your party looks solid, I think. There's no XP limit but a level limit in IWD, so theoretically, any multiclassed character could reach level 30 in each class. That said, even if you start a HoF game, they probably won't reach that level in one playthrough.
I suggest replacing the F/C by a Ranger/Cleric so you get access to druid spells (unless you check out the option in the game settings). Unkitted Bard is generally recommended because they get special IWD songs that are considered better than kitted bard songs.
Archers are very powerful and I'm using two in my current run. Sorcerers are also very good because there's a lack of scrolls in IWD.
The Dwarven Defender can reach 100% resistance with the right items and enough levels. I used one for the first time and he does the job admirably. It's a bit boring but effective nonetheless. Having one is by no means required but it will really help in particularly tough fights.
As dp85 said, Thieves are lackluster so I also think they're best used with dualclass or multiclass.

@Abel thanks for the advice. Do you have a Special Party recommendation regarding ... Class / Race / weaponspecialisation?

Well, in HoF, provided you have a way to summon allies, anything can work. So then, I'd say play with what seems fun. Myself, I like having a FMC and a FMT but if you're not going for HoF the slow leveling will be frustrating. Dual classing some of the multiclassed fighters (level 7 for instance) could be a good idea if you want to optimize XP gains.
For weapon specs, I advise taking a blunt weapon spec for fighters (I favor flail/morningstar) because skeletal undead have a resistance against other types. Other than that, you can take pretty much anything. Club is probably the only spec I would advise against (not enough of them). I don't use two-handed weapons/shields either but that's a personal preference.
There is one item that only Gnomes can wear so you could make one. Also a few items can only be equipped by non-good characters (make one true neutral character, I'd say). Priests also have different spells to choose from depending on their alignment. You could make several and level them up with the console (CTRL + space) to see the differences.

I personally prefer vanilla bards for the War Chant of the Sith song. Having a druid will also have some unique dialogue come up, though that's true for many things.
