Saving throws & Magic resistance

Hi,
Can someone explain the difference between saving throws and magic resistance to me?

Saving throws work against specific effects. So a save vs. Poison will roll to see if you avoid being poisoned by, say, a spider's bite.

Magic resistance is the % that you completely ignore a spell. Period.

So it could be that I fail a save vs a spell but the spell will still fail because of 100 percent resistance for example?
If I‘m doing a spell and someone would hit me with a magic missile, would that interrupt the spell if I had resistance or a save (I don‘t know if there is a save for MM but if there was)?
    Thanks for the fast answer!

There isn't a save for Magic Missile. That would be dictated entirely by magic resistance. If magic resistance kicked in, you wouldn't be affected by it at all. No disruption, or even hit animation.

As for saves versus magic resist, I'm pretty sure magic resist would be checked first. But not 100% on that.
