NWN EE - shuts computer down when trying to play it

dreapergdreaperg Member Posts: 5
Sorry if this isn't in the right area, Recently bought the steam version of NWN (EE) downloads and installs fine but when I play it (starts in windowed mode) as soon as I click new game or attempt to put the game in fullscreen mode the whole computer shuts down and restarts. Managed top alter a few options, Graphics etc but sometimes it doesn't even get that far and if it does it doesn't make a difference.

Thanks for any help.

That 100°C CPU temperature sounds quite high (and I guess you made this report during an idle state). Are you sure it's not the CPU overheat protection in the BIOS which shuts the machine down?

Check your case fans, your CPU cooling and everything related. This shouldn't be limited to NWNEE anyway.

Just checked again there and whilst running chkdsk (which was returned fine on all drives too) and core temp is 87.

so far the computer has only ever shut down when attempting to play NWN EE, thats not to say that it wouldnt happen with other applications of course

Yeah, 87°C after chkdsk is fairly high. I do think it was the overheat protection causing the shutdown with NWNEE just contributing to the system load.

replaced the heatsink and thermal paste and managed to run a few hours of NWN no problem so looks like its sorted. They were the only 2 things i didn't replace when i replaced and rebuilt the computer a month or so ago.

    cheers everyone.
