[MOD] Timer Mod

[Description]

The way Infinity Engine works is that game speed is directly tied to how fast the engine is rendering - therefore attempting to double the default speed to 60 frames per second consequently speeds up the in-game timer as well. That affects how much time the player has to complete any timed objectives/quests as well as how long spells, potions etc. last. This project is a timer mod attempting to fix that problem. Once loaded game runs at 60 FPS but the timer is left untouched!

Since combat may feel overly fast when playing at 60 FPS this mod introduces a "Slack Combat" feature - anytime hostile creatures are encountered game speed is reverted to default (slower) until all monsters are dealt with.

Currently supported games:
  1. Baldur's Gate I Enhanced Edition
  2. Baldur's Gate II Enhanced Edition
ONLY 64 BIT WINDOWS PLATFORM

[How to use]

Before using it is advisable to make a backup of your save file.
  1. Download the latest release.
  2. Unpack the archive.
  3. Run the game.
  4. Run LoadTimerMod.exe, choose the game and wait until loading is finished.

Once loaded the timer's animation (bottom left corner) should look "choppy", as if you'd play in standard speed.

[Hotkey]
  • F10 - Show console.
  • F11 - Enable/Disable the mod.
  • F12 - Enable/Disable slack combat.

    Thankee for this mod!

May we also get it hosted on GitHub so it's more reliably stored and people can make pull requests to fix it as prudent?

    @GraionDilach
    I recall you wanting this.

Current download is available from github.
The updated version fixes various issues present in the initial version of the mod therefore I suggest switching.

Hello fellow Gate lowers. This is a bit of a necro.

I was searching for a way to slow down combat instead of pausing constantly in high difficulty fights where one needs to micromanage the party extremely. Its for the purpose of retaining the fluidity of the experience.

This mod is something that might be molded into such a tool.
So this is a question for the tech savvy peeps among as well as the author of the original mod.

How difficult would it be to modify this mod to enable slowing down game speed in combat through a button toggle? Since the mod already does something similar that can be toggled in game i assume the question is not impossible.
