Garrick is an annoying pr*ck, if I had to choose a Bard in BG1 I'd get Eldoth and put Dex gauntlets on him so that he can actually hit something with his poisoned arrows (pity they're not poisoned bolts, would be better for a Bard)
One thing that really annoys me about the BG1 Bards is their low Intelligence, I always play with "Core" rules, so they have problems even just learning spells without potions, you basically have to save these up for mass spell-learning sessions
Haer'Dalis easily. Great Strength and Dexterity, bad Constitution but oh wait - it doesn't remove that much in the end (just 2 health per level which can be rectified), decent intelligence, not sucky wisdom and great Charisma.
Plus he's a blade, has a weapon that can insta-kill enemies and is a TIEFLING of all things! How cool is that? :P
All three get on my nerves, so I don't usually use them. Of these characters, I think I've used Eldoth the most, but only for this quest with Skie, not because he was actually useful as a character.
Big fan of Eldoth. Poison arrows are probably one of the best BG1 NPC special abilities (behind whathisname's Dispel Magic and Tiax's Ghast).
Longbow of Marksmanship + Bracers of Archery = ranged thac0 that rivals Montaron, plus extra spell utility. And it's a small thing, but I've found his Lore to be highly useful from level 1.
I've never actually played any of them (although I do have one in my IWD party right now). Bards seem pretty underpowered, though. I guess Blades are probably good once they get Tenser's Transformation, but in general I don't like having to babysit my characters, and a Blade needs two abilities (Tenser's Transformation and Offensive Spin) to equal a fighter who just attacks.
I will say the level 13 bard song in IWD is pretty awesome, though.
Garrick runs away too much. Though I do like Eldoth, still had to go with Haer'dalis.
Haer'dalis has the obvious benefit of being a bard kit. The other two aren't in the vanilla game. So being specialised to the point where he gets 3 proficiency points in two weapons style is pretty helpful especially using his spins.
I have just about no experience with the BG1 bards. Eldoth just comes too late for my liking, and requires Skie eventually. Garrick is okay, I suppose, but I usually end up replacing him with a mage like Dyanheir or Edwin.
Haer'Dalis isn't my favorite BG2 character, but he's decent at melee combat, and okay as a spellcaster when he has his defensive spin up. Even half lore is usually enough for identification. He is also a fairly interesting character, but I don't think he looks very much like I imagine a tiefling to look like. Maybe they just went through a thematic change after AD&D or something.
Although the quest where you get him is confusing as hell. I have no idea what's going on once I return the gem.
My vote is usually based on my liking the character's personality, but since I never really got to like any of them, I choose Haer'Dalis, since he's a LOT better than the others. Being a blade y'know... Plus even thogh I didn't really like him it was cool to have a tiefling in the party.
My favourite Bard is my charname Kheltick the Blade. He wasn't joinable, but he was creatable. And after creating him, he didn't join anybody, people joined him in defeating Sarevok and later Irenicus. And they will still join him when he'll be my vanguard in experiencing the TOB game.
I like Garrick for his personality. I think he's funny, and charming, if a bit naive. What he lacks in intelligence, he makes up for in good looks. I like the way he calls me "sir". He's young, and cute. I'd have a fling with him if I met him in real life and he liked me back.
Of course, I kind of like Haer Daelis, too. Eldoth is also very handsome, though I've never played the game with him, because I don't want Bentley to shut down the FAI to my party. I wouldn't turn down a night of drinking with him, though.
Could I have flings with all three? I can't choose.

You got a point, all BG bards are handsome and charming - yet no romances available , such irony...

He's also capable, while both Garrick and Eldoth are pretty terrible.

2. Garrick
3. Eldoth

Also, Faldorn's Summon Dread Wolf is pretty pimpin'.

That being said, fighter/mage/thief=the best bard (singing? c'm on, it's no musical!).

Really dig that attitude of his soundset.
