Ultimate Melee Tank (HoF): Dwarven Defender with highly resistant equipment

YigorYigor Member Posts: 929
Name: Bayl'Mifal, NG male dwarf, dwarven defender.
STR=18/88, DEX=17, CON=19, INT=WIS=9, CHA=16.
Initial proficiencies: morning star++, 2 weapons++.

He starts at level 1 but with nice equipment, accumulated in my previous game:

https://forums.beamdog.com/discussion/88061/solo-hof-from-scratch-melee-fighter

2 Defender Morgensterns+4: AC+2, piercing and slashing resistances +20%, magic resistance +15% (for each weapon);
Durdel Anatha armor+6: AC=-3, physical resistance +10% or
White Dragon armor: AC=-2, cold resistance +50%;
2 rings of fire resistance (+40% each);
Boots of cold resistance (+50%) and others.

It gives, while in Defensive Stance, the immunity to piercing and slashing damage, great resistance to crushing and ranged damages and also the immunity to cold and fire.

Protection vs crushing damage and electricity can be completed with Potions of Absorption. 😎

N.B. AC=-17 and can be improved to AC=-19.

    It never happened to me before and it makes pleasure to get zero damage from multiple hits (while being surrounded by undead of the Burial Isle ☠️). The game states:

    immunity to slashing damage! 👍

    Is it possible to get high physical resistances (ideally, immunities) in BG2? what equipment? 🤔

    Only with a Dwarven Defender. Other than that flail that Joluv sells in the Copper Coronet, I don't recall any items in that game which give damage resistance. Regular high-level fighter-types can take Hardiness but that's about it.

    Gromnir's helm gives 50% resistance to blunt weapons. That makes it easy for any high level fighter to use hardiness and the Defender of Easthaven flail to become immune to blunt damage. The other item that's really useful is the Cloak of the Sewers - allows you to take rat shape once a day, giving 90% physical resistance (add the flail to get immunity to all physical damage).

    Thanks for these precisions! 👍

    Hmm... playing as a rat, it could be funny! 🐀 Unfortunately, it's only 2 turns. 😜

    Current status: level 30, AC=-18, THAC0=-8, Gloomfrost. 🥶

    The following equipment: Durdel Anatha armor / Defender Morgenstern +4 / Improved Tiernon's shield / Bron's necklace gives 100% physical resistance (immunity to any physical damage) during Defensive Stance (1 turn, 8 times per day). 💪

    Yeah, almost invincible, knowing that IWD has hordes of melee monsters and only few spellcasters, who are not smart at all. 😉
