reputation drop

FredNFredN Member Posts: 817
While doing the Cavern mission (the fish guys) Keldorn suddenly attacked me for being a Bhaalspawn. Now, going into the mission my reputatuon was 17 (heroic), but at some point it had dropped to 6. I assume that's why Keldorn atacked me. What could have caused this drastic drop during that mission?? Those fish guys are all evil, so I doubt that lying to the king about the Prince's death would have caused it. What could I have done to cause such a drastic drop? I havemt used the Slayer change at all since we got out of the Asylum, so that can't be it. I am going to have to do the entire mission again and check my reputation after every encounter, to try and find out what the heck is going on here.

Yeah I’ve never had that happen. Maybe attacking the harmless imps or the Spectator Beholder? But I wouldn’t expect a reputation drop from those things. Would a fireball (or other AoE) spell during the battle on the ship have caused it? Or are sure your rep was still 17 at that point?
My other thought would be, there are occasional reports of civilian type characters wandering on to maps where they don’t belong. Maybe you blew up a couple peasants or something?

I checked my rep as soon as we entered the cavern and got the task from the king. My rep at that point is indeed still 17. Somewhere along the line if dropp disasterously, and not due to becoming the Slayer. Also, none of the dialog choices with Keldorn were able to change his mind. Most peculiar. :#

Yeah that is strange, I typically have Keldorn with me through ToB and have never seen such behavior. Although I do always run with a 20 Reputation as soon as I can.

    It's definitely the reputation drop.

Now, how that happened ... there aren't many innocents that are supposed to be in the Underdark. The slaves in the illithid lair, the gnomes, and some slaves in Ust Natha.

Whatever happened it happened in the Caverns; we never got to the Underdark. I am doing the whole thing over; so far no immocents are around, and rep is still 17. Very puzzling. And no I didn't kill any imps or transform into the Slayer.

OK this run through I managed to get by with my reputation unsullied. However, Keldorn still saw fit to warn me about giving into the desire to become the Slayer. What the heck? Am I going to have to watch out for Keldorn turning on me for the rest of the damned game? How annoying.

Again, I have *never* had an issue with Keldorn turning on me. Whatever happened to tank your reputation is what caused the problem before. It is possible that comment came because you did still have a marginal rep, but he would not turn on you with a 17.

No, this time my rep stayed at 17, so he didn't attack. But he did warn me about becoming the Slayer, despite my "heroic" reputation. The implication is that he might turn hostile in the future if my rep slips too far. And since the Underdark won't have any churches where I can restore my reputation, I'll have to be sparing in my use of it there.

Sparing? Seriously, apart from the forced change in the Assylum I have *never* used it. It shouldn't be that hard to do without!

Oh, I used it a fair amount when I was with my all evil crew. They loved it. With my all good run, clearly it will have to be an emergency measure. I can think of a few foes in ToB where it would come in handy. Not so much SoA, however. One or two of the cage matches in Ust Natha? On the way to the exit from the Underdark? Have to think about it.

Like I said, I’ve never used it. It is not *needed*.

No one piece of gear, or even multiple pieces are "needed". They just make things more convenient. I don't need Ravager +6, but it does shorten a lot of combats. We have already agreed that we differ in gme philosophy. This is just more of the same.

Perhaps Keldorn acts based on the slayer change only, irrespective of reputation?

For instance, if his upbringing was that demons are bad, slayer is a demon, then even a max positive reputation should not hinder him from attacking. But this is just a guess at an explanation.

Some gear and combo I kind of need; haste and/or boots of speed are kind of my main go to because they shorten the game quickly, e. g. I have to wait less often on slower party members. This is also a reason I don't like monks since they are a bit slow. Rasaad always lagging behind when the rest of the party is already at a map exit.

if keldorn is on your team and you turn into the slayer for the first time, he becomes worried about your evil taint and you can have a convo with him to calm him down ( or else he can battle you the first time ) but if you turn into the slayer a second time with him around, im pretty sure he goes all in and attacks

for the reputation drop, the only thing i can think of is, right before you headed of to the sahuagin city, you might have accidently killed some innocents in brynnlaw before you left, hence the REP drop ( and just didnt notice it )

and i dont know keldorn specifically but i know if your REP hits 2 or lower then good characters will leave your team forever, no doubt keldorn has an extra thing about him that if your REP hits too low he attacks you because of yer evil deeds or some such

What happened was that when I returned to the throne room with the fake heart, I didn't wait for the king and his crew to turn hostile; I just attacked everyone. They were all still neutral at the time; apparently that's a no-no. When I redid the scenario I waited until they all became hostile before fighting. My rep then stayed at Heroic
