Toolset problems (two in particular)

Hi folks,
There are two particular problems I have with the toolset. One is really bad and the other is annoying:

Firstly, the arrow keys for moving the area view all work far too quickly. A quick click with an instant release still moves / rotates / pans / whatever the area FAR too quickly to be able to stop it with any degree of precision. There's a sort-of work-around for some of them but not all. There needs to be a way to slow down the movement so that you have time to let go of the button to stop it when it's moved sufficiently.

Secondly, I like to turn on the button which allows items to be previewed so that I can find the item appearance which I want to use by selecting different items. This used to work on Diamond Edition but in EE it seems to always show the 3D appearance and never the 2D icon. If you switch from the 3D view to the 2D view, you can see it briefly flash the 2D icon on the screen before it instantly returns to the 3D view, without changing the radio button, so it's incorrectly "saying" that it's displaying 2D view when it's actually displaying 3D view.
This is less important than the first problem, but I still find it annoying because it was easier for me to find the item appearance which I wanted and then edit it to make a custom item than it is to create a new item and then have to select its appearance from scratch. Without the option to look at the 2D appearance of an item to find the one I wanted, it slows down the making of items for me.
It's annoying when it happens multiple times per module.

Is there some workaround for the first problem, or can we get it fixed? And if you're looking at the toolset in the first place, can we also get the second problem fixed?

(The movement can be sort-of handled by the... I think it's... shift-click to grab and drag the area, but I haven't found any work-around for the rotation being far too fast, and all of the work-arounds are inconvenient anyway)

While I have your attention, I've noticed that when I place the Start location, it seems to become invisible after I save and reload the module, so I can't grab or move it and instead have to place it again.
