I'm getting this message, whenever I try to login. It's the same meassage, wether I try the Beamdog Client og the BGEE launcher. I've checked that my password is correct via. your home page. I dont' know what else to do, and I'd sure like some help on how to download the game. I just paid for it, and I want to have at it as soon as possible. Minsc and I have an appointment later today, where we'll deliver swift kicks in the evil, and I'm stuck here now, with that big bad message.

- Any help?

Not sure exactly why you're having the problem but it might be because everyone is trying to get on right now thinking that the game came out at midnight..

You wont be able to play until 1pm MST anyway
  • Thank you Riolathel. The thing is - at work, I can stream the download in the background without any problem at all. That's why I'm a wee bit concerned, as to what's wrong with my laptop at home.

    - Any takes?

i had the same problem with my Laptop. No problem with my Desktop. Tried both installers on both PCs at the same time. i even explicitely opened up the firewall for the programm. So, after using some Rootkit-detectors and Scanning for Virusus on my laptop, several were found and cleared. HOWEVER, clearing or remnants still denied downloading the pre-load files. After a re-install (i use HD-images, so it goes fairly quick in about 30 minutes), everything worked smooth...Perhaps you should scan for some nastiness on your PC...
  • Thanks for your response Beastman - However, there seems to be no nasy virus, causing the trouble. Very strange indeed. I've downloaded the game and extracted it to my Dropbox folder. Hopefully, I'll be able to get around the installer, that way. If not, well then I'm really out of luck.
  • I still can't open it. Not by launching it from dropbox, not from the desktop, the C-drive or anything. It makes no difference, if I open it as administrator, and I have no antivirus software blocking it. I am not on any campus grounds, or using a public network. It's my own private router, and I don't know what to do.

Is there anyone who can help me? at all?

@NicklasBenRasmussen, when you say you're using your own private router, people would need more details. It could be something specifically to do with the router, or possibly your ISP (though that would be rare). What sort of router is it (make and model)? If it is wireless, is there any way to bypass it?
  • I've never had issues with it before, so I don't think it's the router causing any trouble. It's I doubt it's the ISP like you said. It's a wireless N-150 Netgear router, if that's any help to you :)

I've never had trouble with it before, so I don't think that's the problem. I hope that's details enough for you. What do you mean by bypass?

Thanks in advance, for lending me an extra pair of eyes !
  • @Troodon80 Any ideas?

@NicklasBenRasmussen, when you say you haven't had any problems with it before, have you used the Beamdog client before? Have you every used P2P programs before? Apologies for the questions, but two more:

Have you tried using the torrent approach? That is, downloading a client like µTorrent, and then downloading the torrent file (thanks to Mortes for pointing that out).

And have you also tried contacting support@beamdog?

    Hi there,
I've got the exact same problem and after you suggested it, I bypassed my router. Unfortunately no improvement. Everything that is written in this forums concerning this problem didn't work at all - including contacting support@beamdog. Therefore I'm desperate for a qualified answer or at least some more ideas... ;)

@lollerskates, I assume that means you have also tried the torrent approach? If nothing is working, then you either have a problem with the ports on your firewall (you can try simply turning it off for the sake of testing, then turn it back on after you have tried it), or your ISP is disallowing P2P programs (which, as I said, is highly unlikely).

Hi @Troodon80. I can't get your torrent link to work. And well, I have used Bittorrent, uTorrent and Bitcomet for years, and I know how they work. The program is installed, but I can't get past the verification. My ISP is not diallowing P2P programs, and I've tried to diable my firewall a dozen of times.
  • @lollerskates Hi! Can you please tell me if you get some sort of solution? :)

Ok I had high hopes, but the error also occurs in wlan at university. I don't have any idea what the problem might be - its not the router, its not my firewall, its working neither on my desktop nor on my laptop, it is unlikely its my lan at home as it does not work at university either. support@beamdog didn't answer for 40 hours and the ideas of this guy unfortunately weren't any helpful at all. WTH?...

Any solutions or at least further ideas are welcome...

  • Thanks @lollerskates - I'm glad I'm not alone with this particular problem. I've tried about as much as you have, and it's really annoying that it has to be this difficult. I've sent support@beamdog a message aswell, and I hope that at least one of us, will get some sort of resolution in the matter.

I have now been offered a refund and am really considering to accept. Forums are full of complainments about bugs and the verification-failed error pisses me off so much.

Theres also another guy on the forum who managed to get rid of the error by upgraiding from XP to Win 8, just to have the game crash after character creation. What the hell is wrong with BGEE?

    lol @lollerskates

that would be me, i guess i just stumbled on this thread, seriously if i cant fix this crash after character creation within a day or so after upgrading to win 8 i think i might be asking for a refund as well :(

i must say THIS community NOT the developers have been extremely helpful, the BG:EE loader didn't work for me, the beamdog client didn't work for me, i couldn't connect to the torrent supposedly from beamdog, finally someone gave me a drop box link via PM to help me out and that STILL didn't work for me. Only upgrading to Win 8 32bit worked for me, only for the game to crash after making my character, its like a cosmic joke :) !!!!

It seems, from reading all posts regarding this kind of issue that are still on-going, are systems that have Windows XP SP3 installed.

At least for me this is true, maybe the other guys having this problem could also say if they're using XP SP 3?
  • GloomfrostGloomfrost Member Posts: 275
yes i was running xp sp 3 and contantly getting "Verification failed due to a server error" no matter what i tried , only upgrading to win 8 (32bit in my case) did it solve the problem. Still can't play the game, need some time to figure out this new crash.

Just as I thought I had found the Holy Grail, it proved to me that running on a different network, doesn't solve the problem at all. I'm all out of options but I've decided to let Beamdog keep my money, because I still fully support the idea of developing Baldur's Gate even further. I'm just gonna have to wait for it to appear in my local store then.

Hi, I'd been looking up this forum myself to try and get around this problem. I used to have a similar problem with World of warcraft. My brother told me he fixed a similar problem by doing the following, and this worked for me too for BGEE:
On my laptop, I went into internet explorer (even though I use firefox), went into tools>internet options> advanced tab> and hit 'reset' near the bottom of the pop-up window. Then I re-opened the downloader and it worked fine. Neither of us know why this worked, but it did. Hope it works for you guys.

    what sometimes works when you have weird problems with connections are the following commands;

start a cmd window (use start as administrator)
    ipconfig /flushdns
this will clears the dns cache

    netsh winsock reset
not exactly sure what it does but it solves connection problems to in some cases.

    hope this helps

    @NicklasBenRasmussen
Im also starting to suspect that "verification failed due to a server error" is a problem relating to how Beamdog and the direct downloader work with Windows XP Service Pack 3. Ive tried a bunch of different things with my firewall, changing passwords and what pukingdog suggested above ^^^^. Its a shame that I cant just log into my profile on the Beamdog website and have the Client recognize me from that :S

Really? pf... so I give up. I hold an antic winXP only because I need IE for work. If that game is not working under winXP I do not need to buy it at all, I can just wait for linux client to the next year or so.

Hi everyone. Not sure if this has been resolved, but I got mine right. The IE solution above got me thinking... I also have Windows XP SP3 and use my laptop for work purposes. I work through a proxy at work and all I did to fix my problem was:

    - Go to IE --> Tools --> Internet option --> Connections --> LAN Settings --> Un-tick proxy --> Apply changes

This of course means I have to use my own USB Modem and can't use the work's data connection :/... but hey, at least I'm playing now.

Hopefully Beamdog can fix this problem in an update...
