Are gems useful?

Are the gems used for anything or are they just to be sold for money?

In BGII there are a few uses for GEMS. In BGI I think there are a couple instances where a certain gem is required for a mini-quest, otherwise you can just sell them for quick profit. One thing to remember, if you ever need a gem back, you can buy from the shop you sold it to.

If you have a wild Mage in the party, gold can disappear, though I think it's only a slight chance. I tend to keep the gems until I need extra cash.

-A person in Baldur's Gate needs an Angelskin Ring (chapter 5).

-On the Friendly Arm Inn map there's a house where a woman needs her dead husband's Flamedance ring back. It can be found by killing the hobgoblins on the north side of the map.

-Joseph's Greenstone Ringcan be found in the Nashkel Mines and returned to a woman in Nashkel.

That's all that I know of. Otherwise, sell all of your other gems!
