Imoen: unusable bow

Greetings! After playing a few hours from the beginning of the game on my iPad 2, I always end up being plagued by the same issue which looks like a bug to me: Imoen's bow becomes unusable during a fight. The game tells me that as part of the messages during the battle and even though the bow is shown as equipped in the inventory, the bar at the bottom shows a fist. In the inventory window, I tried to unequip and equip again the bow. I also tried to buy a new one. But to no avail: Imoen can't use a bow no more!

I haven't found anybody else reporting that problem on this forum. Am I missing something here?
