I'm Lv 6 and have about 9K gold, now, I havent bothered to spend much, but I just d/c'd Imoen to Mage and wanted to give her wands, until she had a decent armoury of her own spells, but when I went to get the magic missile wand recharged, it cost 8K gold, now, I dont really need the wand, I have a couple of others, but, I was wondering if I'm missing something, regarding making money.
Thanks for any advice

Some items that aren't blued out (non-magical) are worth more than others, so early in the game, it can pay out to pick them up and sell them. Generally, that's non-leather armor and heavy weapons. You won't get "rich" with them, but they can at least pay an early resurrection or some potions.
Where are you in the game? You can't help but be rich by the time you've explored Baldur's Gate City a bit.
@Madhax, oh, i'm not far at all, as regards the story, I am heading to Cloakwood, but I've just been messing around unshading maps , basically just levelling up (currently Lv 6).
I'm not too bothered about the money per se, its just that I was taken aback when it was 8K to get a wand recharged, I thought I was doing something wrong as I only had 9K gold so far.
Thanks for the help guys
Keep in mind that "recharging" wands is really buying them at full price, so it's going to be expensive if you want to keep doing it. So, as I'm sure you've figured out already, don't bother with weak stuff like magic missile wands.
If you're in Cloakwood, you've got plenty of riches ahead of you. The vast majority of them actually, if memory serves. I was thrown off a bit because level 6 is quite advanced for your chapter in the game, but no matter. You'll be rich soon enough, don't worry.
@TJ_Hooker thanks for the heads up
Winter wolves are a bit trickier to farm, they don't spawn as reliable as ankhegs. The best chances to find some are on the maps around Nashkel Mines and travelling between them, but it's more likely you just get kobolds, hobgoblins or bandits. Bandit scalps can be sold to Vai in the Jovial Juggler and it's sort of a farming quest, but they don't pay much (50 gold). The only advantage is that they stack in the inventory (in piles of 10) and are a lot easier to collect and lighter to carry.
The next best thing to ankhegs are Wyverns, which you'll find in Cloakwood. You can "sell" the first wyvern head to the Beregost Temple (it's Coran's quest, but you can do it without having him in the party or even talking to him) for a good reward, and Feldpost Inn buys wyvern heads, too. They do lose value with each you sell, so best farm as many as you can transport on your strongest NPC and sell them at once.
Head into Durlag's Tower and don't die.
Come out the other end farting gemstones and coughing up gold.
This works surprisingly well. Wander the countryside fighting random bandits, other groups of adventurers, animals or whatever. Take anything of value from their corpses, rinse and repeat.
For a fairly easy 5k there's a couple of encounters due west of Beregost. Once you obtain a certain holy symbol, the mayor of Beregost may give you a reward...
