    It's a nice sentiment, although he seems to have heavily simplified the issue of what motivates these people into two points:

    1. That their main motivation is to be noticed/become important, because they feel that they aren't.
    2. That someone trying to befriend them has a reasonable chance of stopping this.

    I won't go into a lengthy post unless someone is particularly interested in hearing my opinions on the matter and discussing it, but I will say that this is far from true as I see it. Again, it is a nice sentiment, and teaching children to be friendly to one another and to look out for one another is never a bad thing.
