Maybe it just needs a slight colour/outline change to be recognised as not a plain sword? Not necessarily magical +1 to do that. n.n
Yes, it does need to be more unique just to make it easier to recognize. But making it a +1 would give an incentive to keep the sword for yourself, instead of it being just a boring item fetch quest. Or for evil parties to return the sword then kill Perdue. It might make it more interesting for RP reasons.
I think I kind of voted wrong though. I don't really want it changed officially, because I'm not a big fan of messing around with the original content so much. But maybe as a mod or something.
Some premises: most adventures doing this quest will be poor. My neutral good FMT for instance carries with him a whole bunch of Xvart-short-swords to sell for 2gp (yeah, I know, he's real cheap!)
If they give it a different color, it would stick out in the mud of Xvart short-swords.
But making it +1 seems pointless, I guess most poor adventures would just sell it for some more coin (all but the lawful do-gooders..., blast 'em!).
The best thing, in my opinion, would be to make it "unidentified" (at start) so that it would be "different" by itself... Is there an option that can do that at least, I dunno...
We - and by 'we', I actually mean 'ME, ME, ME, MEEEEEEE!!!' - mostly need IWD:EE. After BG2:EE, of course, we are not completely unreasonable. (Edit: Meh, I just read the Overhaul manifest about what can and cannot be done. I guess I'll just have to be vewwy patient.)
Regarding the poll at hand, I also agree with @tilly, that a simple design update for Perdue's sword, instead of buffing it to a +1 short sword, would fit better. (And it would be easier to implement, I think.)
Make it +1 and you're better off selling it for a good price than the loosy 50 coins the halfling offers. Or keep it, if you're using short swords, it would be relatively easy to get a +1 weapon early.
I do have a question I never tested out though...is perdue's short sword breakable? If not it would still be decent enough for the starting period to use.
