Specialist Mages; is this true?

chickenhedchickenhed Member Posts: 208
Hello all,

I happened upon http://www.sorcerers.net/Games/BG2/conjurer.php the other day. Is the description there true? I know you get an additional spell per day, and I also knew you were not able to cast spells from the opposing school. But I had never heard of the 15% bonus/penalty to learning spells and the +1/-1 saves you receive.

Is this truly the case in the BG series?

As far as I know, it is not. It may have been intended, but was never officially implemented into the actual game.

Apparently it actually is. Except its +2 to your saves against your school of magic and enemies get -2 to their saving throws when you are casting a spell of your chosen school at them. On top of the 15% chance to learn spells in your school and a 15% penalty to learn spells outside of your school.

It would be awesome if it was included

Little things like this should have been included, I never heard why in the end they were left out. Its quite dissapointing that, in the original making of BG, they decided to leave them out.

Another thing I can think about is the bonus to saving throws based on wisdom, and sorcerers using charisma as a dependent stat instead of intelligence...

Unless I'm mistaken, but don't sorcerers as they currently are have no primary no stat and recieve no benefits from having high intelligence or charisma?

As far as I'm aware these stats don't affect casting abilities for a sorcerer. They affect other things like lore rating (INT), how long the character is mazed for (INT), and NPC reactions (CHA), of course.

@OperativeNL was meaning "they left out the bonus to saving throws from wisdom and sorcerers using charisma as primary stat".

These kind of things, that are present in manuals but never made it into the game (presumably because of lack of time) are the kind of things I was hoping EE would implement. =(

It would certainly have added a little more flavor to the specialist mage.

Bonuses to saves vs. spellschool require new opcode. It already is in a feature request tracker, but there are a lot of other things too.
