Technically, they're also supposed to not be able to use any magical item that replicates effects from an opposed school either, unless the item is usable by non-spellcasting classes.

I.E. A necromancer could use a ring of invisibility, but an enchanter couldn't use a wand of fire since it requires the ability to cast arcane spells to activate.

In PnP, Diviners lost the fewest schools (just 1) and got the most (3) and more powerful high level perks, to compensate for the general lack of benefit they get from direct specialization. Losing conjuration isn't as big a deal as it originally seems as the shadow line of spells in illusion can replicate the effects of conjuration and evocation spells, albeit with less effect (summoned creatures special abilities have no effect unless the target believes they're real, and only deal 50% of normal damage if they're disbelieved, 80% if they believe it). Not to mention, having a guaranteed slot reserved for divination, which are actually sweet in PnP, rather then cutting into your power as a plain mage is pretty awesome.

holy hell, diviners in pnp... I still dread the day when I'm on DM duty and one of the players says he wants to roll a diviner... and I'm pretty sure on of our old DMs has returning nightmares thanks to one of my own diviners.
that class/specialization is scary as hell, I don't think anything else in pnp can break not just the game, but the whole campaign so throughly - and even if they don't intend on that, it still often becomes a battle of minds, with the DM trying to stay a few steps ahead of the guy who can legitimately guess all of his moves...

extremely fun class to play though, just... I feel sorry for all the DMs, that's all :D

specialist mages should receive +2 bonus to level of spells of their own school and penalty -2 from others schools. Plus the saving throw bonus of their own school they already have but with saving throw penalty from other schools added

Is it possible to change via mod?
