Gnomes are awfully under-rated!

I may just be a bit of a nubbin, but gnomes are awfully under-rated! Both in actual pen&paper D&D, and fantasty video games - they seem to be a bit of a stickler for abuse.

Personally, aside from warrior orientated options - I think they're one of the most unique options!

    They're certainly powerful... but they're just so puntable.

    that'd be a fantastic idea for a seige weapon - Jan Jansen talking about his cousins launched into an enemy fort will bore the living s**t out of them.

    Reminds me of the time one of my 4E players created Alabaster the Ivory, a gnome archwizard. He joined late one night, rode in on his flying carpet with illusory strippers dancing in the sky, and gave the party a huge amount of cold resistance with a spell. Their frost giant foes happened to deal 100% cold damage, so I quickly became bored and declared them the winners of the encounter, eager to move on.

    Underrated, indeed.

    All of the races have their strong points, and gnomes are pretty spiffy. My apathy is reserved for halflings... they work for J.R.R. Tolkien, sure. In my game worlds though, I tend to find them kinda boring and often this means they don't exist at all in the world. I haven't gotten rid of gnomes though, if that tells you anything. ^_~

    Just gotta make them have their one unique thing, those halflings. In 4th Edition, they're the lucky, affable race. In Everquest, they get along with everybody, etc.

    I want Gnomes to be able to play Bards. That would for sure be my option to romance Aerie.

    A gnome fighter/illusionist is often considered among the strongest combat PC builds available, both at melee and magic (and fun combinations of both).

    You can enable all classes for the gnome by editing just the CLSRCREQ.2DA... I'm running with a gnome avenger right now.

    i like gnomes, they're the only shorty class that can be an arcane caster and the only race that can multi/specialist

    but why no bonus shorty saves for death rolls??

    I don't dislike them; it's more that they don't interest me.

    Gnomes just fall short in certain aspects.

    I think I'd consider one, if I were to play a mage. I don't really do the magic thing, although I probably should.

    Gnome Dwarven Defenders would be interesting. Would they then be Gnomish Defenders :£

    Whatever gave you the idea they're underrated? Most people here would agree Gnomish F/I is perhaps the best multiclass in the game.

    Exactly. I don´t understand why would anybody prefer elf over gnome. Not only from powergaming perspecitves. Who would like to be an elf if he could be a gnome?

    I love halflings in Master of Magic where they're a terrifyingly powerful military race. They're are great in TOME4 as well, where they are ruthless military strategists. After all, it can't just be luck and friendliness that causes other races to leave them alone...

    I love halflings in Master of Magic where they're a terrifyingly powerful military race. They're are great in TOME4 as well, where they are ruthless military strategists. After all, it can't just be luck and friendliness that causes other races to leave them alone...

    Gnome cleric/thief BOOM. Plenty of thieve skills to help at the beginning and shorty saves.
    More powerful in the long run tha a Half-Orc IMO

    I'm kind of glad gnomes are a little underrated, simply because I like playing them and it wouldn't be as fun if everyone else was a gnome! Seriously, though, they are a solid race capable of holding their own in most roles, but especially as a illusionist multiclass.

    gnomes are great for a Chaotic Neutral playthrough. "I'm gonna pick my nose, now I'm gonna shoot Magic Missle at that guy over there. Now I get charmed by beautiful female vampires over yonder, must make roll to determine whether I'll betray my party or not."

    In Temple of Elemental Evil my gnome sorcerer was such a boss. She destroyed everything.
    Really wish we could have gnome sorcs.
