Kruin Encounter, battle does not trigger correctly

When you return to Athkatla in Chapter 6, you are stopped by a Githyanki named Kruin who demands the silver blade. If you refuse to give it to him, he summons some friends and they attack you.

But in the GOG version of BG2, the encounter doesn't function correctly. After Kruin is done speaking, the game hangs in "cutscene" mode and you have to ALT+F4 out of the game. The problem (and a solution) is described here:

    I don't know, this didn't triggered in my game either, it might be because I didn't had the Blade from the sword???

    Run the wide screen mod and reduce your resolution to 1024 by 768... The encounter seems not to trigger when the githyanki cannot materialize off screen. You can return to the resolution you were using after the battle. Worked for me on bg2 GoG with the mods recommended on GoG.
