[Oddest Elvenpath] Journal, Hardcore-RP, No-Load, None-Canon Party, Lots-O'Pitures & bad writing.

Greetings,

This was my first attempt at an ARR/Playthrough focused on Role-Playing a character, rather than my usual power-gaming self.

I only set *2 rules for myself:
- Try to actually RP, and not to break character in order to gain "stuff".
- Perma-death, for both me and my party members.
Alto, even this I might be tempted to cheat and RP someone losing an eye or an arm.
Depending on my mood. And I am moody.
*quick addition tot he rules - Try to sneak in as many splleing mitsakes as I cna!

I ended up only loading once, due to what I considered a very cheesy death to Nimbul the Ubberbard.

Chapter index:
Chapter 1 - Of Candelkeep
Chapter 2 - Of Death and Revenge
Chapter 3 - Of Travels and Lose
Chapter 4 - Of the road to Neshkal
Chapter 5 - Of Neshkal
Chapter 6 - Of Swarming Mines
Chapter 7 - Of Mines and Hospitalizations
Chapter 8 - Of Blackguards Affairs
Chapter 9 - Of One Year of Service
Chapter 10 - Of Caravan Searches
Chapter 10 - Of Caravan Searches

I should start boring you with the background of the character I chose to play by now... but Its a fairly simple one.

image

A multiclass Elf (Fighter/Mage/Thief), who is as full of himself as he is young by elven years.
I have not decided on the actual age, because "God is in the Details" and I am a militant atheist.
So 1-0 to me.

He learned magic form Gurion, how to steal from Imoen, and how to fight from jealous kids who tried to beat on a skinny elf.

As for the 5 paragraphs about his personality... I will spare you.
Armed with my illusions that my writing ability will convey it during the playthrough.

I decided to add a new section, to show the "progress" of the recruitable characters in this playthrough:

Ajantis - Died Heroically in the parties last stand!
Alora - Unmet
Branwen - Still a Statue.
Coran - Unmet
Dorn - Killed by Hairtooth the Bridge Ogre.
Dynaheir - Killed for Edwin.
Edwin - Electrocuted by Osmadi the Druid.
Eldoth - Got away form the parties last stand using a potion of invisibility.
Faldorn - Unmet
Garrick - Spat on and Services Refused.
Imoen - At the gates of Candelkeep, begging entrance.
Isra - Unmet
Jaheira - Killed by Nar-El & Mantoran.
Kagain - Killed by Bassilius's Air Servant.
Khalid - Killed by three Flaming Fists mercenaries.
Kivan - Died Heroically in the parties last stand!
Minsc - Killed by the Party.
Montaron - Killed by Silke.
Neera - Killed by the Red Wizards.
Quayle - Killed by bandits while trying to rest.
Rasaad - Killed by Zordel.
Safana - Unmet
Shar-Teel - Killed by Mulahey's minions.
Skie - Unmet
Tiax - Probably got away form the "last stance" and still rules all!
Valerie - Face eaten off by Zordels summoned dog.
Viconia - Unmet
Xan - Killed by Tanzig.
Xzar - Forcibly hospitalized in the temple of Helm in Neshkal.
Yeslick - Unmet

Any suggestions for another character I should try and make another of these?
If so please post.

I thought you were going to create a very old Charname, because at first I read AARP.

Not sure I understand... afaik AAR stands for After Action Report.

You made me google AARP, American Association of Retired People!
    Made me giggle!

Yay! Somebody else who knows what AAR is!

I think it is usually used in a Strategy Game context. I came across it first from Hearts of Iron 2 and Shogun 2 Total War.

Love the beginning! Look forward to how it develops :)

Maybe I should change the title... any suggestions?
I think the direction I want to kind of take it should be clearer by now...

Might it bee too much to ask you guys what you think I should do?
Continue down the mine/resuply/just rest here for a while?
Or some other crazy RP suggestion will also be welcome, tbh any comments would be nice :/
Im trying to make this one an interesting read, so if anyone has any suggestion about things to change/add im all ears...

Well, I actually reasoned out Nar-El is too full of himself to admit retreat.
Plus he does not want to look weaker than a half orc.
So he adopted Xzar suggestion of just resting there...
A decision that cost someone's life!
    ~DAM-DAM-DAM!~
    Fake Drama FTW!

Now, to be frank at this point I suffered my first "whipe".
I went to rest at the Inn, totally forgetting about the existence of Nimbul as I didn't remember him ever being a challenge...
I never even learned his name, he was just "free boots guy" for as far as I can remember.

Note that im playing for the first time with stratagems on, after a long "hiatus" from the game.
Its also the first time im RP-ing with such odd decision making, so whimsical...

    Anyway!
    To my horror...
    Nimbul killed everyone with ease!

I than decided to read about him, and from what I gather he is a lvl 9 Bard...
    :/
Really?? lvl 9 with anti-arrow-boots... seems abit tough for people who choose to come back from the mines to have a rest... and get payed at such low levels.

So I kinda cheesed this one out, I started shooting at him before he spoke to me. One poisoned arrow actually did the trick.

I dont really like these kind of things, and rarely do this.
But I wont let this play stop due to this ubberbard.

    image

    image

At this point I can really go crazy with the EEkeeper.
Im planing of coming back in a few weeks or so game time, and have Xzar have a "makeover".

My creative juices aren't flowing atm, and I could only think of a few options:
    1. He gets "cleaned up"/"brainwashed" and turns priest of Helm.
    2. He escapes his "treatments" to the wilderness braindamanged, and turns a very feral ranger or druid or necro. or weak barbarian.
    Any other suggestions?
He is lvl 3 btw, and thats more or less the power-lvl he will be when I go back for him.

    The finale of the chapter:

Chapter 8 - Of Blackguards Affairs

    image

You know... just the other day my wife asked me how come I can still play the same game for some long.
And do the same things all the time.

    And... this is why.
I never actually expected to see or have Quale in my party ever again!
And the game threw a curved ball at me...

    Oh the Irony!
If I only didnt have the bad (is it?) habbit of only lvling up after a battle is over Dorn might have still survived this one!
As he dinged just after he killed the first Oger!

Im running through canon-fodder npc's way to fast tho...
im being really cautious with my magers and charname, and somewhat neglect the fighters :/

Thinking to myself, lets put the boots of electricity on Edwin so he wont die randomly...
    :(

This is a major loss for late game ambition.

This is really fun to follow! It feels a little bit like a graphic novel style. Very digestible. And it's interesting to see a sort of 'street' depiction of a sociopathic elf. Really like how you've customized with portraits and it's neat that you're using SCS. Great job!

Ended in a blaze of glory.
Where Nar-El, urged by Kievan made a somewhat suicidal attack on the bandit camp!

Aldoth probably survived, he had a potion of invisibility.
Tiax might have also run away.

But the brave trio of Nar-El, Kievan and Ajantis met their doom.

Nicely done Ogaburan. I loved the innovation of using screenshots of the game and the journal. Very creative. I liked the offbeat aspects you came up with. You brought us a character that I'll remember.

SCS and permadeath are a tough combo (especially after a lengthy hiatus from the game). Good show. :)

Thanks for the kind words @Lemernis!
    Really appreciate it.

SCS kind of blew my mind from the get-go.
My first play through ended in Candelkeep when the other shank used a potion of haste and poisoned his weapon. And killed me.

    I fell in love immediately.

I cant wait for the NPC project, as it was another great mod I missed then I was younger.
