New hard core Solo Challenge (No Death)

After doing some research the most recent solo challenge discussion I was able to find was over a year ago. I am new to the sight so I could be mistaken and no one may ever join this but I wanted to start a solo no death challenge taking one character from BG:EE through the entire saga. It is quite the challenge and I don't know if I have it in me but I'm going to give it a shot. Let me start by giving the rules:

1. We Play on core rules difficulty. That means when you level up you get what you get and you don't throw a fit.

2. No reloading for failure to memorize scrolls and such.

3. Obviously its a solo challenge but you can still relieve NPC's of their items if you want. Especially if there are any Rogue classes that want to use their stuff in Tob.

4. Upon death, if you want to start over, you can use the same character but he/she needs to start back at level one, no items etc. However if you beat BG:EE and move on to BG:EE 2 SoA then die in SoA you don't need to go all the way back to BG:EE. You can start back at the beginning of SoA.

5. When it comes to character creation feel free to get your character as good of stats as possible. With a no death/no-reload challenge your going to need a good roll to start.

Thats all I can think of to start. I'm going to get started later today most likely as I have family coming over soon. But I will be posting and sharing my play through with screen shots and what not. It will be fun if a few of you join me and do the same. I have been playing a bunch since they came out but am ready for a new challenge. Thanks and enjoy!

Well I got started sooner than I thought so here it is! The beginning of Peeshka Dillwashka's no death challenge. The attached photo will explain it all. I wen't with a Gnome because I wanted to multi class and still get specialist mage. I was going to do fighter mage but thought I would get creative and use a Thief instead. It may be to weak to not die beginning game and at other difficult battles but I'm going to try it anyways! I'll keep you updated on Peeshka's adventures.

Well...That didn't last long. I had a few close calls with the skeletons at High Hedge. I had made it to frendly arm inn, killed the mage, got the flame dance ring for the lady, did the ogre fetish quest. Then on my way south of High Hedge I snuck up on a ghoul whom I successful back stabbed...he then flipped around and got a his first attack to hit which also held me and I knew that it was all over for Peeshka. I also realized I never exported Peeshka so I will have to remake. O well, I may try the mage/thief again but I'll let you know.

Such a cruel and lonely death... Peeshka's last moments must have been pure terror as he was slowly eaten alive by a stinky ghoul... And don't forget, ghouls are notoriously slow eaters, so he probably suffered for DAYS!

RIP Peehska. The gnomes will never forget you!

I'm back at it and I hope some of you will join in on the fun soon. Its a shame Peeshka had to die at the hands of that ghoul as TheGraveDigger so gracefully pointed out, but on the bright side; Peeshka's little brother Wally has risen up to take his place. Wally is also a Illusionist/thief. So far Wally has followed in the footsteps of his brother and has tracked his way to the very spot he was murdered. Tonight he is going to extract his revenge and I'm going to post a nice screen shot of him standing over the ghoul's foul corps.

not but 5 dang minutes after I post about how wally is going to triumph...he gets it handed to him by a fetching gnoll. I don't really want to talk about it. I'm a little peaved but no less determined. I will go and see if Peeshka and Wally have another sibling. If not I will have to find another adventurer.

This family is starting to sound a little bit like the O'Doyles. "O'Doyle rules!"

Funny you should mention that...So I happened to find a sister. Delphny Dillwashka is her name. And yes she is a illusionist/thief. Well good old Delphny wasn't to happy to hear about the loss of her 2 brothers and after going mad with grief has set out for revenge. She already dispatched of the gnolls that took down wally. And at this very moment she has come across the ghoul that took down peeshka.

Delphny was kicking some major butt. Notice the past tense. Quite the epic story really. Delphny had taken down at least 5 orgillions with ease. She dispatched an ogre berserker without breaking a sweat. It was a sunny day and she was heading back north to Beregost when she was stopped by some Flaming fist soldiers. They accused Delphny of being a bandit which she thought was a joke. To her dismay they were jerks and attacked. She was able to put 2 to sleep and blinded the third. She went to attacking and nearly finished the blind one off with a burning hands spell. Before she could get a killing blow off the other 2 woke up so she quickly drenched the ground in grease. She finished one off with her magical wand of missle's, took his gear and ran. Feeling pretty good about her escape she continued on her marry way to Beregost when she was caught in a bandit raid. Surrounded by 8 bandits with short bows she didn't even have time to guzzle her invisibility pot she pic pocketed from Jehira back at the FAI...After taking an arrow to the knee the bandits quickly killed and relieved Delphny from her 3500 gold. RIP Delphy and the rest of the Dillwashka family. You'll be missed.

If anyone else wants to join in on the fun, I'm ready to start another go at it. Until then I'll bide my time.

I've never done a solo run before, but I think I'll give it a try today or tomorrow and see where it takes me. I doubt it will end well, though ;)

One question though. Is it allowed to give a multi classed figher/thief or mage/thief the assassin kit, or should I stick with a pure class assassin for my first try (before probably resorting to a standard fighter/mage)?
  • EmmiEmmi Member Posts: 77
Sooo, as expected, my first attempt failed miserably. Linara, my elven mage/thief got slain by the treacherous mage at the Friendly Arm in when he hurled a barrage of magic missiles at her.

My next try: Alden, the Blackguard! (Best roll ever??)

Unfortunatly, I lost it today when my PC crashed, BlueScreen and all that good stuff, so I had to do a full system restore -.-

    That's terrible news :(

Preaching to the choir, buddy. NVIDIA drivers can be evil. Or it was CCleaner. Idk.

dang 102 roll son. Well its refreshing to see some peeps giving this a try. Emmi, to answer your first question let me make sure I understand. Were you asking if you could multi class a human assassin into a mage or use a mod to start as an assassin/mage?

Been a long while since I did my first, Ranger/Cleric solo run.

    Meet Loki:

    image

Loki is a rash young elf, talented, but borderline incapable of accepting anyone else's help (hence the absurdly low Wisdom score, doesn't he realise that D&D is a party-based game?).

During this run, I'll not be killing anyone "abnormal", no Shandalar, no Elminsters, nada.

Here's hoping Mister "I use ranged weapons and run away a lot" survives past the first random encounter.

And Loki the 1st has fallen, thanks to a Flesh Golem in an ocean cave. He was a very respectable level 4/3/4 with Nashkel mines completed and he was hoping to level off the Flesh Golems in there as a "safe" target.

Too bad I didn't clear out the sirines outside to properly kite them. Flesh golems have such high priority attacks and hit so hard, the two brushes past it were fatal, and it's all the way back to Step 1, my modified beginning save (which gives Loki his unique colour scheme and Elf Rogue appearance).

This time I'll probably head straight for the Basilisks for an early boost (skipped them this time around to level off lockpicking and quests), see if I can risk handling the garden gnome with my familiar (at least once I find a Protection from Petrification scroll or give up and just go with the old ghoul slave).

@Jack_Ketch I wanted to just use Shadow Keeper to add a multiclass to fighter to the assassin kit. But I kinda feel like it gives you an unfair advantage. Played my last main BG character that way for RP purposes, but for a solo challenge, it just doesn't seem fair. Assassin bonuses and +2 weapon specialization is probably too op.

Oh, and the mods I use on my game: Isra NPC (irrelevant here), Neera Expansion (also irrelevant) and Rogue Rebalancing.

Do note that if you multiclass a thief kit then your backstab progression and thief skills / level are normalised (aka full backstab swashbuckler, full thief skill assassin).

@Pantalion Really? I never noticed that, lol. Sounds like it would require a lot of micromanagement to always subtract the 10 additional skillpoints after every levelup :(
Well, looks like I'll just try to roll a good fighter/thief and take my go at the challenge. Or maybe I can recover my Blackguard somehow with the use of safemode or something from the broken PC (looks like the graphics card broke).

    Ride forth Loki the sixth!

Loki the 2nd: Lasted two days before random encounter'd.
Loki the 3rd: Killed by an ankheg killing his familiar.
Loki the 4th: Killed by an ogre critting his familiar.
Loki the 5th: Killed by a greater basilisk poisoning his familiar to death.

I've good feelings about lucky number six though.

Six to death of the prologue.

I wouldn't use familairs in the current patch(1.2). If they die, you die. Or sometimes they mess up your saved game and cause you to be dead on load...
