Can't find Dings (the cat)

in Baldur's Gate II: Enhanced Edition
Hi

I am on Neera's quest line. I have finished the quest: Barad Ding's Eight cats, but the only reward I get is the Collar Bell. I don't get Dings (the cat). I've read in the forums that people also got the cat. I really want the cat :)

Did I do something wrong with the quest? I have returned the 8 cats in 2 runs: First 5 and then 3.

Any ideas?

    If anyone is interested, after some testing I have done, I am pretty sure you can only get the cat, Dings, if the main character is a mage.
