Does alignment matter at all in IWD?

Since you don't really have any repercussions from having a reputation differ from your character's alignment and no fear of party members leaving is there really much of a reason to say have a party of similar alignments? Like if I have a mostly good party with a ranger and paladin in it but I want my mage to have an imp or mephit so I make them evil. Is there any point in the actual game itself beyond character creation where choice of alignment matters?
