Question about installing Big Picture in order...

GamingFreakGamingFreak Member Posts: 639
So after finding out that BP has a somewhat working version of Ascension currently, I decided to try and install it but got hit with an installation error. Having experienced this before, I realize it's something to do with the WeiDu and probably the installation order of mods. Currently I have BG2 Tweaks, DungeonBeGone, and Rogue Rebalancing installed, and in proper order.

My question is what the proper install order is, or how do I fix the WeiDu in order to get BP installed without getting errors on Setup?

In my installation, I could not install BP without first installing the BP Series AI script. Perhaps you could try putting it as No.1 in your order, download at:

    http://www.shsforums.net/files/file/1025-bp-series-party-ai-for-bg/

For reference, my Weidu log is below:

@darkly180 wait a second is this means that Ding0's Quest Pack and Oversight are compatible with BG2EE or did I miss something?

I had no problems with the Quest Pack, but the Sendai component of Oversight might have caused the glitch which started my thread below.

@horredtheplague would be the best person to ask anything BP related.

@darkly180 thanks for the response, I'll try to install it later and hope for the best

The need for BP Series was an error, and I'll get a hotfix posted as soon as I can. Otherwise, barring that...

    --Install tweaks mods *****
--Install BP Core & BP-Ascension & extras. You could throw in ToB/Watcher Keep improvements too here, if you like.
--Install your Ascension-related mods (Oversight, etc etc)
--Install SCS, inc its Ascension pieces. Just remember not to use the same type of components from both SCS and BP. Generic Spellcasters (both types), e.g.
--Install the rest of BP you wish to use, remembering what I said about SCS

***** Currently there is a compatability issue between BP / BP-Series and aTweaks/ Rogue Rebalancing. The latter 2 mods use an older version of Detectable Spells, where BP uses the latest. The old version has a (broken) patch for LEVELDRAIN checks. On top of it the broken check was pointless--the vanilla games check works just fine.

v3.1 removes this, but the v3.1 DS doesn't account for this in cleanup--it leaves the check still in place in the spells/items/IDS files. This in turn breaks a BP/Series system, the STATE_DISEASED fix. A truly working fix, for something truly broken. The biggest shame is, I went out of my way to account for aTweaks Mummy Rot disease in my BP Series scripts. But maybe we can convince Avenger to update that for us, so we can game on.

@Wisp, any chance this (Detectable Spells / IDS cleanup) is an easy fix for next version (4.24?) of aTweaks?
  • WispWisp Member Posts: 1,102
It's not an easy fix or it would have been done already.
  • halobobhalobob Member Posts: 5
Ok thank you Wisp. I figured as much. Really a minor annoyance, and there are workarounds. For those that cannot easily work those, an ascension game is still very playable without aTweaks. Since I like the challenge, I'll install both and workaround it with install order, etc (thanks also to Horred).

Big picture fucked mages AI in my game, largely regret the install of the mod, as uninstalling now probally will solve nothing.

So ppl, what is safe to install of Big Picture that will not fuck enemies AI scripts? Cos lichs using domination or starting the fight with immediate tenser transformation is too much stupid.

Big Picture's mods have caused problems for me. Killing modified enemies results in being unable to save the game in that area as I keep getting the "monsters are about" message despite the clear lack of monsters. Other times an enemy would disappear while I was fighting (not go invisible) and again I'd be unable to save.

After much frustration and tweaking, I've decided not to install any BP mod other than Ascension. SCS + aTweaks do a perfectly fine job of increasing the challenge.

Can i install ascension without the base install of big pictures?

No, you need to install the BP Core component. That doesn't modify anything, just sets things up for installation of other components.

Good to know, i lose interest in my current game, with every mage being an moron (lichs casting immediate tenser transformation without protective spells and demi-lich kangaax standing still doing nothing while i hacked him...).

It installs DS and it attempts to implement some fixes (depending on your game version and/or the presence of other mod components). This is not neutral.
This being said you don't have a choice if you want BP-ascension.
