locked gate?

in Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition
before you enter lower dorns deep there is a empty zone, with snow and rocks.

unlockable gate at the north end???

seems to serve no purpose.......?

anyone got some insight on it...

    It just leads to the museum basement in the previous area. You unlock it with the key you get from the salamander leader and free the slaves (or however you decide to complete this quest).
