IWD EE steam crash on start up

in Troubleshooting
after reinstalling the game after christmas i am no longer able to launch IWD EE. as soon as i hit launch on steam i instantly get a error message and a crash report was saved to documents.

i am on steam, using windows 7, before xmas the game worked like a charm. now error message everytime i try and launch the game

    Try renaming the game folder within the documents folder to rule out issues with the ini file, saves or portraits. The game should create clean versions when it is next run.
