Ancestral skills (applied anthropology) are a hobby of mine, my favorite being fire by friction, specifically the hand drill (spinning a stick between one's palms on a resting stick. I made a video of the ember's formation, sped up, then reversed, and thought some of you may find it entertaining, b/c I do:

When I was a kid, my brother and I used to spend hours trying to master that. As I recall all we got for our efforts were blistered hands. : )

If you have enough speed/force, you can melt steel this way... friction welding is pretty crazy.
