My best BG friends, would you help me spread this message in social media? I'm looking for a new job, and this could really help! A thousand thanks in advance!
I've reopened this thread, and removed the off-topic posts. This community has been largely supportive of personal causes like this one, and I'd like to encourage positive behavior where possible.
Good luck with the job hunt, @Astafas. Are you looking for something in Sweden, or are you looking to branch out?
I'll use this thread to apologise personally, as I already have to Moderator @Heindrich . I apologise if it seemed like I was trolling you, the link you shared seemed to be a follow-along joke that stringed along with the "Blue and Black or White and Gold" Dress argument that had been going on around the internet like wildfire, and therefore, took it as a joke. I in no way meant to offend you, harass you, troll you, flame you, or cause you any distress. I apologise to you in full and hope that we can remain friendly with each other from here on out.
As for your job hunt, I wish you good fortune and that hopefully somebody here can help you.
I have been asked to clarify my earlier post, and of course I'm more than happy to oblige!
My Facebook post is an ironic paraphrase of the dress meme (is it blue/black or white/gold?) that I think few of us have missed these last days. It is written as a fictional news article, with the only intent of creating a good laugh and, hopefully, seeing me in a good and creative light.
The dream of my life would be to write scripts for games like BG. It is almost impossible to explain how much these games (and the books of Salvatore and Cunningham, just to mention a few) have meant to me during the last twenty years. I realize they are not the haute couture of fiction, but I really don't care - I just love them. (And I read most classic literature as a kid anyway.)
I am actually quite well known (within my field) in Sweden. This is my LinkedIn summary:
"A former lawyer who one day found marketing. I've held leading positions at marketing agencies or on the client side ever since. As a management consultant I've helped Swedish companies with everything from branding platforms and creative processes to how to set up an efficient marketing department or better brief agencies. Promoting creativity and KPIs in equal measure, I teach at advertising schools and Stockholm University as often as my schedule allows."
At the moment, I am on parental leave (a very Swedish thing: http://www.economist.com/blogs/economist-explains/2014/07/economist-explains-15). But in a few month, I look forward to start working again. Now I only wish to find the right place for that. I already have several offers, but I want my next job to be the right one. As far as I know, we have only one life, and I hope to make the most out of it. :-)
I *might* be willing to move outside of Sweden, but that would more or less have to be you guys asking me. ;-) My family is so wonderful it's almost ridiculous, and we live a very happy life in Stockholm.
When you speak of your dream job as writing a script similar to Baldurs Gate, do you mean it as in the form of a Medieval Fantasy type of thing or just being Medieval? Either way, finding a job that will let you freely write a script as such would be immensely difficult, especially with the crummy games coming out recently (Which mostly consists of rip-off MOBA's, Bejeweled Rip-Offs like Candy Crush, games that pretty much mimic exactly what a bunch of other strategic games do, in this case, the new Evolve that everybody is storming the shelves for, and so on. There's maybe 2-3 games that come out a year that are actually good.
I'd honestly look at talking to big companies that have produced games that have fantasy storylines such as Blizzard and Bioware. It could be worth a shot.
