edited September 2015 in IWD:EE Bugs (v1.4.0)
Observed: The following steps cause a game crash.

1) Open Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition (v. 1.4.0)
2) Select New Game
3) Delete One or More of the Pre-Generated Characters
4) Click "Create" in the slot where a Character was Deleted
5) Error Sound and Message Generated ("There was a problem with Icewind Dale...")

Expected: Obviously, no error should be generated. I've reinstalled the game and tried this on a friend's laptop (specs unavailable but was also a Windows machine).

Notes:
Operating System: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU X 990 @ 3.47GHz (12 CPUs), ~3.5GHz
Memory: 12278MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX 11
Dual AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series Graphics Card

I can't replicate this 100% of the time. Seems to happen most when you play a game, quit out (not all the way) then go in and try this.

I think I found out what was causing this... after the 1.4.0 patch, for whatever reason I had some character files which had no .bio files with them. In any case, you couldn't use these character files any longer and I think they were corrupt, sometimes causing crashes when loading the "New Game" screen. I deleted the messed up character files, and it seems to work now.
