High Hedge Bug?

in Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition
I can only seem to get the mage at High Hedge to open up his inventory to me once. After that, everytime I try talking to him, he tells me to leave him alone. Why is that? I don't remember that being in the original Baldur's Gate.

    did you tick him off? I think if you get him mad, either by insulting him or him catching your trying to steal from him, he won't sell to you anymore.

    If you bring a certain chicken to him, he'll reopen the store.

    I had this happen to me, but I don't think I did anything to anger him. It might be reaction based.
