Could the new clear text be made optional?

My issue with the black is that it really makes the text stand out to much... which i know sounds odd seeing as they added it to make it easier to read lol. But walking around with Tab on is very garish having it hover above there heads. Then you have the issue of in a crowed battle or even in a simple setting like a tavern they overlap like in @bengoshi images but worse as there are so many npcs on screen.

So yes hopefully they look into either shifting the text around so they dont overlap or adding opacity. Would be nice :)

Wouldn't an outline font obviate the need for a contrasting background that as in the aforementioned examples can potentially obscure important parts of the in gameplay display?

One thing to consider when adding opacity setting is how to handle multiple floating text instances that overlap each other. Does the background become doubly opaque?

I don't think it would. I find an outlined font does not have the same readability as a font on a high contrast background. I also see no issue with the last two screenshots @bengoshi posted, the words cover up the gameplay either way, I would rather be able to read them if they are there.

Regardless of how they are or were, it would be ideal if the font was repositioned to be either above your character or below the enemy.

I think that a light colored font outlined by a dark contrasting color or vice versa would be a better solution than the current one of a light colored font on a solid dark background that can (and does as in the examples) potentially obscure important details of the in game display. Despite my personal dislike of sanserif fonts, something like Arialic, Lane Posh Light or OldgateLaneOutline would be preferable in my opinion.
