(Spoiler) Item for Old Well

So I am at the point of coming up to the old well and one of the options it gives is to place an item to lower down into the well. Does anyone know what item it is looking for?

Apparently if you put a weapon in the well takes that as a threat.

If you put in gold, it heals you, and if you throw in a weapon, the spirit of the well attacks and drops a seemingly random enchanted item (got a +2 shortbow and +1 warhammer on seperate occasions). Haven't found this mystery chicken though...

could it be that it only drops if you kill certain crusaders? I did not find the chicken

No, in my game, the chicken actually disappeared after the battle at Bridgefort. Or maybe I killed it accidentally.

But in earlier save from before the battle, chicken was there with 4 other chickens.
