"What the mod actually does

For lack of a better-working solution (and because I'm a n00b at modding), commenting on how strange Mizhena's name is simply ends dialogue. No special snowflake life story for you, hooray!

One of Minsc's rare "task given" lines has been changed to something else. The devs thought it would be hilarious if they got a jab at GamerGate in the game and have Minsc say it, of all people. Totally not an invitation to respond in some way, and its just sad to defile Minsc to use as their political mouthpiece to express a "take that" to their #1 boogeyman.

No string references are added or replaced for maximum compatibility and simplicity."

Can we move on now?

Unless Amber Scott comes out with a big apology and promises to never do something like that again, this won't be over anytime soon unfortunately.

You act like it's wrong for an apology to be extended. I think it would be a tactful way to go about it. Certainly more tactful than it's been handled thus far.

I seriously love how GG is "rabidly anti-censorship" but they want to censor content they find objectionable.

I doubt most of the people opposed to this have anything to do with GG. Just individuals wanting something to be mad about.

It's hilarious when people fall for satire sites.

Let's refrain from mentioning certain individuals in comments, and follow the site rules.

There're different ways to handle the whole situation, and the apology you're talking about is not the only way.
Avoid mentioning names? Why? If she wasn't the one who wrote the dialogue, people should get informed, because that's the general consensus out there. If she was, what good is avoiding mentioning it? People aren't responsible for what they're doing anymore? Not mentioning names will confuse people? What?

Sure there are different ways to handle things. There are also better and worse ways.

Why would anyone but a GG have an issue with what Minsc says? He's a berserk ranger with brain damage. Anything could come out of his mouth.

Because people have varying views regardless of who they troll about with. I don't even have an issue with it and was accused of being a GamerGater because I don't wholly agree that 'everything is hunky-dory' as far as the writing goes in general. I didn't take it well.

Please. This is mobbing of an individual, whom happens to be human like you and I, and as behaviour it is pretty unkind. I wonder if you would ever gladly invite this level of general scrutiny to your own professional outputs, especially when it's emotive as opposed to factual?

IMO: this mod is silly, but if it makes someone feel better, they are free to download it of course.

I, for one moment, do not think that loyal fans and typical gamers are such delicate flowers (!!) that they wilt over couple of lines of text.

I really like SoD, am very thankful for Beamdog for extending my BG gaming joy after I had given up hope years ago, and can take ALL of its content without batting an eyelash. :-)

Good point. Anybody has the right to take umbrage with anything.

IMO, good writing evokes a response. By that measure, SoD is very well written.

And these GG warriors seem to have received a terminal blow to gaming stamina and common sense, I would say, since their gaming joy is soooo very fragile that it be so easily perturbed.

Let all blossoms bloom, even these very, very delicate flowers - but it's petty and disloyal to gamers at large (I find) to try to prejudice them against what is frankly a joyful 25-30 hours of gaming.

This idea that "If I don't like it, no-one else should" is quite selfish and immature really!

Even though my opinion of Amber is now... low... we don't know for a fact that adding that line to Minsc was her doing. And as others have noted, someone signed off on this and didn't see a problem with it going into the game. So the blame isn't on just one person.

For ME, particularly, I had little response. I did have a reverence at the end,
as I chose to fight with Caelar
but aside from that little response was emotionally elicited from me. Seems it did grip many others, though.

Democratic Socialism is a necessity of modernity. To have it pointed to in games, movies and pop culture is the a good thing not a bad thing.

More evidence that both sides of this fence are at fault.

Can we not be so blatant about our distaste of others? Civility is not so hard.

A hate crusade against a female writer, smearing the hard work of a passionate team with 0/10 reviews for basically 10 seconds of a 40 hour game.. Of course emotions are high. Of course i think said crusade is idiotic.

I will repeat, game does not need fixing

I don't like the writer either, am I stupid despite enjoying the game nonetheless and biding my time to write my review when all this passes?

I suppose calling the events idiotic is at least less provocative than calling the people in question idiotic. So I commend that, at least.

I would be massively offended if Beamdog offered any sort of apology. It would be a huge victory for bullies and bigots, and a huge blow to artistic freedom of expression.

Leave it to the fans to fix the game afterward.

I totally agree. I do not think this is a time to stand up to them, however. On this I see we differ.

So when is the time? when they get to burning books?

It looks to my like it may already be too late to stand up.

As Saruman said, "the hour is later than you think."

and that's why I propose we start a modding project to flesh out Mizhena and make her more than a one note character defined by the fact that she's trans.
