Installing Updates?

I have installed every version of BG since the 90s (Windows, PowerPC, WineSkin OSX, EE, etc.), but for the life of me ... how do I update from 1.3 to 2.0?

    It depends how you purchased the game. e.g.
    for the Beamdog launcher: Click the orange + sign, then click Apply Update.
    for Beamdog standalone installer: Use the icon at the bottom right.

    I have the OSX Beamdog version. Do you dl the update from in game? I searched on support site for updates, also. Or do I have to download the entire game again? Does that mean I lose any characters, portraits, saved games, etc.?
