    ive looked around noone else seems to have this specific issue. its the final one to resolve and i can play comfortably. ive spent the last two days getting this game to run. i have no mods installed this is from a clean install. ive reinstalled, ive even factory reset my laptop (specifications in attached file). ive worked for the last 2 days to get the laptop updated and getting the game running. im using xp compatability was using vista but that stopped working. ive read 2 dozen different forums tried more than a dozen different tweaks. some of which helped and finally allowed me past gender selection. bottom line is this is seemingly the last issue i need to resolve to play. i dont even care to get the portraits fixed.

    @NeverSurrender7 Run DxDiag (windows key + r, dxdiag, save all information) and attach the report here

    @Cerevant ive updated directx ive done vc++ client, done my windows updates, manually forced my hp video drivers, run ccleaner, updated security essentials, played with different resolutions, tried all the compatabilities, using xp compat atm, automated my bit service, updated internet explorer, tried tabbing out & back in, windowing, and half a dozen other things.

    Could you try installing directx 9.0c, which should install alongside directx 11

    The only thing i can think of is that you might have Clear Type turned off. A search for it should find out.

    @alboy no joy, i tried turning off too. never heard of that one thanks tho
