    Neera -> It doesn't feel like she belongs in the universe. She sounds terribly "modern" and too weird to be believable. Cringy comments and jokes.

    I doubly agree there, even though im not into the role play thing that much anymore, she does feel so out of place, and cringe worthy moments, that is spot on, but for me, at least she is useful for a mage ( that extra spell per level is nice) so every once in a solar eclipse I will bring her along

    Anoman - Gods I hate that annoying, self righteous, tosser.

    I still maintain the only reason to ever have the fool in your party, is for the joy of watching Jan to rip him off. Well that and guiding events so that he gets thrown out the order. Directly after his life is ruined leaving him naked, broken and without a coin to his name on the cold streets of the docks, is really the only thing to do.

    Actually, now that I think about it, there is something that does annoy me with companions and NPC:s alike:

    Lets keep it real, you've got a lot of swagger;
    * Offspring of a God
    * Adventurer
    * Martial artist / Powerful mage
    * Connected to a lot of people, from dukes to rogues to archwizards
    * Knows a lot of secrets not meant for the general public
    * Rich as a dragon (at least after you loot a dungeon or two)

    On top of that, you save a shitton of damsels / jiggolos in distress, which at least occasionally should land you a hug or them sitting in your lap, from whencewhere you can invite them to dinners / parties etc if you play your cards right. Also, you go to the local pub every night and get drunk. Even if by accident, you should at least have managed to seduce one local farmers girl by now. But no, no hanky-panky for you.

    And lets not forget your companions; after you defeat a god damn dragon, you would think they would be sufficiently impressed, no? Well, you might get ONE romance, but make ONE slip of the tongue and they will never speak to you again. Seriously? Your companions are the most up tight mercenaries there ever were!

    It all makes me feel like this (skip to 1h12m34s);

    The only time I would say CHARNAME is weaker than any BG1/SoD npc is at the very start of the game, right out of Candlekeep and a bit into the game..In SoD you are at your prime..Fully stocked with various powerful magic items, slowly manifested Bhaalspawn abilities and the recent feat of having killed Sarevok. Having an escort and a bodyguard through the town is just a formality at that point, it's not like you really need it.

    You do grow at a rather absurd rate, but that's video games for you I guess...

    the NPC I hate ( and it's thanks to beamdog): Sharteel

    my question is why? she was awesome in the original BG, but now she is crippled over TERRIBLE weapon proficiency choices, first of all, she is not going to hit 4 proficiencies in long sword anymore, which I know isn't much over 3, but power gaming is power gaming, and even then, why oh why, does she have 1 point on long swords and one point on daggers with 2 points on two weapon style? it's totally bogus, first of all, this is 2nd edition dnd, you don't need a light weapon in your off hand, so doing the light weapon off hand thing is just plain pointless especially in BG1 where levels are low and you can spend time wasting proficiencies on crap, now my assumption is that beamdog might have thought that everyone who uses her duals her into a thief, and that they would go straight to dual wield if they did, again this is not 3rd edition, and also, some people ( like me ) keep her as a fighter because she rocks at that aspect, every since that horrendous proficiency choice was made for shar-teel I will never EVER use her again of coarse I could just mod shar-teel and fix her, but I don't like modding my BG games, so with that being said, shar-teel can go pound sand

    don't worry, I know how to mod my games, but as I said before, I don't mod my BG games

    I don't think I hate any NPC, but there are quite a number of characters from BG1 I've never used because they appear so late in the game (some I wouldn't use anyways, like Tiax).

    In BG2 I never cared much for Edwin and Cernd, I've finished the game at least once with every other NPC except these two (and the EE characters, as I'm currently playing BG2EE for the first time).

    As for SoD characters, I've only played it once (I'm new to the Enhanced Editions), so I haven't had the chance to try all the NPCs yet, but I really enjoyed having Corwin and Glint in the party. I enjoyed Neera and Rasaad in BG1, but had no room for them in SoD.

    If you're not against modding, I'd highly recommend a mod call S9 Tweaks. There's a component there that makes a ton of the late-game NPCs accessible much earlier, and all in places that make sense.

    For example, Alora can now be found in Gullykin, and Eldoth can be found on the same map that you meet Elminster for the first time. In the case of NPCs with timed quests, the mod changes their quest timer to give you more than enough time to make up for the early arrival in your party.

    Tiax and Quayle (two of the more interesting NPCs in my opinion) can also be found in Beregost and the Nashkel carnival respectively, meaning you no longer have to wait until you reach Baldur's Gate to get some gnomes up in your party.

    Granted, I think Yeslick and Skie need to remain where they are, so those two are still a little late, but it wouldn't really make sense for them to be anywhere else.

    The mod really changes up the way you plan your party, if you do at all, and gives you a reason to give some of these great NPCs a shot.

    Thanks!, I'll make sure to try it next time I start a new game. I wanted to play without mods this time as it's my first time playing the Enhanced Editions, but I used to play the originals with a bunch of mods, so I have nothing against that. :)

    Ladies , can we not argue here ? this whole thing was thought to be a Funny comment/vent about NPC Companions..not about how mighty CHARNAME is or isn't. at any given moment. you are welcome to cat-fight it out over Notes.

    - Anomen: So smug and annoying.
    - Nalia: Something about her just annoyed the hell out of me
    - Dorn (partly): I found his quest to be too evil, then again he's optional so for an evil party that's no issue. Second thing bothering me though, was that he was weak after his completed quest, at least iirc.
