Do you think beast master is good for legacy of bhaal?

It is the one single warrior class capable of magicking up summoned fodder, and every one of them has 50 health on top of triple of what they'd usually have so each animal can take a horrid wilting or two before dying. They can use animal summoning 1-3 and as many as 3 of each by level 16. They actually are quite deadly as archers too if you give them something they can use their str bonus for like a sling, going high into the 30's for damage per hit while under the effect of cleric buffs and epic bard song and they can do that 10 times per round. Also, it's expensive, but bullets come in +4 enchantment.

If you're playing unmodded, then any class will be fine if you play it right.

But summons are definitely quite powerful in LoB, that's for sure, so any class that has a summon ability of some kind has somewhat of an advantage.

I wouldn't rely too much on your familiar for combat. They get double their normal HPs + 20 - so a 12 HP familiar would have 44 in LoB. They also have the major advantage that the damage done to them is not doubled in the way it is on the party and they can be useful in combat if used carefully. However, they have no protection against critical hits and could still thus be one-shotted by stronger opponents and they certainly won't last long if you just commit them to general melees - and the death of a familiar is likely to kill even quite a high level beastmaster.

I agree though that the animal summoning spells for a beastmaster are relatively far more useful in LoB than lower difficulties.

According to SethDavis in this thread,, summons only get x2+20 hp

That's correct, but that means they have getting on for triple their normal HPs - and in addition they don't suffer the double damage from attacks that party members do. They are thus much better at soaking up damage than the PC / NPCs - and it doesn't matter if they die anyway.

I wonder if they can a implement a system in which you capture monsters, raising them, feeding them to be stronger (in different routes!), THEN summon them in battle, having them killed in the battle field will deduct con as familiars do, though it sounds more JRPG-ish :#
