in Beamdog Client
I eventually want to switch to Linux.

I notice that buying the game from Beamdog gets Windows and MacOS whereas from Steam and GOG also adds in a Linux option.

Is this a unique to Linux build or is it just the Windows version packaged with some things to make it compatible with Linux? Normally Linux uses WINE to make Windows programs compatible and direct Linux programs have to do some compiling to get things to run.

    Yes, the Beamdog Client can be used on desktops using these operating systems:

    macOS: Only 64-bit, minimum version is 10.9.

    Windows: Windows 7 or later.

    Linux: Built for Ubuntu 16.04, confirmed to work on Ubuntu 16.04 or later, Fedora 24, and Debian 9.

    Is the Beamdog client basically an emulator that you install after the program? Maybe that's how those third party companies had install systems for Linux.

    We now have Linux versions for all our games (except for SoD), - which will show up in the Client:

    So how the client works is if I buy a Windows version of the game, later I can switch to another operation system and then the client will let me keep using it?

    Yes, you automatically get Windows/Mac/Linux versions at when you purchase.
