Key items lost on rest.

Garrens child is stuck in jail forever,i didn't get the key from mage because i ran out with Firkraag on my tails.Then i rested and prepared against the dragon.After the battle i went down to look for the key but it wasn't there.?

    I've a similar experience. I've found the key, opened the prisoner's door, ran back down to slay the dragon, and when I leave... She's still standing there, door open, urging me not to face the (already dispatched dragon), and not leaving. What gives? I can't complete the quest, and it's really irritating Anomen. He's become very whiny about it!
