I don't sure if what I did is good or poor attempt but this what I did:
For Human Fighter or Mage or Thief the minimum stats are 3 to 18 except of one attribute which is 9 to 18, So I rolled 6 attributes and summed them for 100,000,000 times using the Monte Carlo method, this is what I got:

I might be wrong, me and statistics are not good friends, but it seems reasonable..
This makes much more sense than what Elizabeth calculated.
Here is an advice. Roll till you get everything maxed except wisdom. Then go to Durlag's Tower and take the wisdom tome. Use the tome and save the game. Then start a new game by importing your character from your saved game. Do this n times(I suggest that you raise your wisdom to no more than 18 points, otherwise it would be mega cheating). This is more like an exploit than an actual conventional cheating. If your character is a fighter/mage/... max your wisdom and not your charisma. I once made that mistake to not max my wisdom of my f/m in BG2. As a result my wish spell produced some terrible results. Since it will be possible to use our saves from BGEE in BG2EE, don't hesitate to not be as attractive as wise. Double length Time Stop + Improved Alacrity. I shall say no more.
I never cared about 18/00. You will get to 19 after tome of strenght anyway, so the number after 18 doesn't matter much. But I would also get more WIS. I hate minumum stats, and definetly would feel good RPing a char with 3 wisdom... I get it that you also need INT being a mage, but eh... If it really matters that much, then cheat!

Apparently it matters a lot when soloing on HC - both additional damage and to hit is extremely important. And bonus carry weight isn't something to be sneezed at either, since you need a huge amount of back-up stuff (e.g. armour and shield).
I guess I'll keep rolling. Even though 57% of the voters think ill of my intelligence.
me, i say roll until you're satisfied, after the time you've put into, will you enjoy the char is you don't get the stats that you want? and even if the rest of the world thinks you're crazy, who cares, so long as you're happy and you respect yourself.
Remember, the greatest men/women have gone against the many, and forged their own path. But if you do give up, no worries. And in the future, set a time that you're willing to roll to get what you want, and if you haven't hit it in that time, either accept the highest roll, OR at that point, use cheat code. I would say use highest roll at that point, but again, choice is yours my friend.
I would have liked a different rolling system; maybe one that supported a variety of the traditional rolling alternatives (like 4d6 for each stat, drop the lowest die). And have the roll come first. You roll (and rearrange scores as the rolling method you use permits), pick a race (making the necessary attribute adjustments to reflect your choice) and alignment, and then see the classes for which you are eligible.
The bass-ackwards way the Infinity Engines games do it is why you've got 98-point bards lining the halls in Candlekeep.
Funny - I just got a 93 for an Elven mage on my second roll... I just couldn't bring myself to max out STR given the portrait. Had to throw the extra into CHR and assume that she's quite the charmer. 19 Dex and 16 CON will keep her around for a few hits though.
96 was the highest I've seen yet but that was rolling for a Paladin so the min requirements kind of throw off the odds and who cares about the modifier when you know you'll find the tome?
I've got two things to add: 1. Is there any other game where fans can be seen devoting themselves to this sort of thing before the game even begins?.
2. What would you guys do if you had to advance 5 points from an 18 strength to 19 (like in torment). So that 18/01 STR + Tome of strength would elevate to 18/51.
I prepared for this sort of min/max guilt years ago. I created my own rules system built on the Godsman concept from Planescape, and played every game I own in relative chronological order over the past 2 years. The result is a balanced character with no stat exceeding 18, and no sense of guilt from cheating or feelings of inadequacy from poor dice rolls.

Hope you hit your target, and even beyond it :P
Done in 10 seconds.
Then you play and enjoy the game..

I voted 'no', but I don't think you're dumb. Just human.
Being mediocre and happy is better than being perfect and depressed in my book. Your choice.
