Bandit Camp - enemies not fighting

I found bug in the behavior of the bandits and hobgoblins inside the Bandit Camp area.

"Describe current behavior:"
Most of the Bandits and Hobgoblins in the Bandit Camp area are not fighting. I spot them, they enter into fight mode, do few steps and then stop and do nothing. Its happening mainly to the Bandits and Hobgoblins who are located directly in the Bandit Camp (i mean the bandit camp on the map of the Bandit Camp area).

"Describe expected behavior:"
The Bandits and Hobgoblins should fight properly.

P.S.: The enemies in the main (chief) tent and in the cave (gnolls) are fighting normaly.

I am not 100% sure if this is an actual glitch but when I went thru the Bandit camp area I noticed a lot of the npc monsters acting strange. One example is the chill hogoblins where when I walked into the camp only one hogoblin attack me while the others just stood still. They were still shouting and doing that howl sound effect but they were not advancing towards me, worst when I attack them they didn't even try to defend themselves.

I've got the same issue in the bandit camp, monsters just doing nothing and waiting for you to come.

This happened back in the original game aswell, I remember NPC's become invalid all of a sudden sometimes as one of the most reoccuring bugs.

Skurut? You mean Hobgoblins. It was not most of them in my game more a third. But yes annoying bug. It happened in other areas too.

@Incas Yes, ofc Hobgoblins. :) I accidentally used our translated expression. Thx for that - updated.

I can't remember the name, but one of the named human enemies to the lower/left of the large tent did that for me. He was stuck in the ground and couldn't move. The other bandits were able to move.

In the bandit camp Chill Hobgoblins just stood around as I hacked through them. Even in melee combat, they just stood there until they were lunch meat.

Yeah, that happened for me too...It was nice.

    It's cause they're chilling.

Hobgoblins did nothing with me too, but the human bandits nailed me with their arrows for sure. I think Ardenor did a few swings too.

Yeah, they seem to be stuck...

I'm having trouble reproducing this in 2011. What is the scenario leading up to this? Did you join them, get taken prisoner/fight Tazok, or go in fighting? Do they turn red at all, or are they staying blue? More details and a saved game would be helpful.
  • BladesipBladesip Member Posts: 200
@Cerevant Scenario is simple - Go in fighting, nothing more. The enemies are normaly red (as enemies), but as i said in my first post, most of them just do few steps and then do nothing, even when i am in meele range and attacking them eg. with sword.

Unfortunately i dont have that game save anymore. :-/

I have a theory on what could be happening, but I can't test it because I can't reproduce the problem. If anyone can come up with a saved game where this is reproducible, I'll take a look at it again.

I have the same issue here, do you know a way to put it back to normal? I can send you the saved game if you want? yes they turn red and I can even beat them (it's just not as fun). If I delete the baldur's gate save folder and re-create a new game. The bug persist.
note: I just re-install the game on my new pc (windows 8, 64bits), my old one where the save have been taken is a windows 7 32 bits.

    Same by me.

@yeassay, If you could post a save game to Dropbox or GDrive and post a link, that would be a huge help.

    @yeassay,

When I load your save game (bandi), I head south and west and am immediately attacked by Credus and Taugosz. I'm assuming that you are seeing them as neutral?

When you start the game, before you click on "Baldur's Gate", what is the version number you see at the top right corner of the screen? It should read v1.0.2011

Do you have any mods installed?

    Thanks!

Got the same, i.e.: all bandit archers are fine, all ennemies inside huts/tent are fine, Taugosz Khausann is fine, so is Ardenor Crush - BUT the (few) 3 or 4 chill hobgobblins located at the north-western side of the camp, were standing still, sometimes fighting, sometimes just stopping and taking hits.

    @Cerevant
I don't have any mods installed and the version number is 1.0.2011.
I try to remove the baldur's gate saved folder. and start over, i had the same issue. So I don't think it's related to the save files.
  • CerevantCerevant Member Posts: 2,314
I didn't mean to imply that the problem is with the save game files. The save game files allows us to reproduce the state of your game (global variables, timer triggers, character configuration) so that we can reproduce the problem, and hopefully identify the cause.

Can you confirm that the bandits are not hostile when you load the bandi save game? Or am I misunderstanding your problem?

    I have solve the issue!!!
I launch the "repair install" in the updater and then unziped the saved files.
Thanks for been so quick and nice. Have a nice day.

Glad to hear it is working for you!

@Ignatius, can you do a repair install and see if that helps?
  • IgnatiusIgnatius Member Posts: 624
@Cerevant: nope, I have no save file of that moment. Everyone is dead and burried at the camp by now.

It has happened in all my playthroughs of BG:EE so far (i.e. 3 games), and it is very consistent: only some of the chill hobgoblins are bugged (maybe wrongly scripted?) - those that you encounter towards the far left of the camp, right before Ardenor Crush comes to greet you. I encountered no other problem with any other ennemy on that map.
  • CerevantCerevant Member Posts: 2,314
Understood - There's little doubt that there is a problem (see above), but so far no one on the debugging side has been able to reproduce it. The Chill hobgoblins actually make use of 3 scripts, which might have some subtle interaction that we are missing.

We have also seen a situation where a creature script was changed (incorrectly) at runtime, causing unexpected behavior.

So while we can catch some things by code review, some issues are subtle enough that the problem isn't clear until you can reproduce it. Further, we can fix what we think is wrong, but if we can't reproduce the problem we can verify that the problem is actually fixed.

So, I'll continue to beg for save games :D
