It would be far superior to import previous game decisions, a la Mass Effect or in a lesser role like Dragon Age 2, than to create some canon ending. RPGs are essentially about player choice. Deciding on a single ending going into the next game could do serious damage to player immersion.
In many ways I'm not that keen on importing previous game decisions. Yes, it's nice to see how your decisions have an impact on the future, but it really limits what the developers can do.
Every quest they implement needs to have multiple branches depending on what happened before. And ultimately it means that the decisions you take can never have too much impact on the future. ME3 is the same story no matter what happens in ME1 & 2 - choices in those games largely just have an impact on the War Assets number. Any characters that can die in the first two episodes have a convenient understudy ready to take over from them.
As we are talking about ToB, I was the only one who did not like it very much? It's not bad, but when you compare with BG2, it's not even close. I liked the conclusion of the story, but it felt rushed.

The reason for that is that it was rushed It was originally intended to be a whole separate episode.

On the other hand, Watcher's Keep is great!
