Would people rather have Baldur's Gate 3, or a Planescape: Torment sequel?

    BG3.

I wonder if I have the patience to do all the reading required in a PS:T successor. The depth of the world was great, but it was like reading a novel. Might need a lot of voice work.

I prefer that we first exhaust the BGEE type "updates" because creating a new game is VERY hard -- rpg classics are few and far between for a reason -- even NWN1 sucked and it was by Bioware (BTW, in an interview a few years later they admitted it sucked).

So, let's see BG2EE, PS:TEE. Not a big fan of Icewind Dale series (not enough story -- just one fight after another) but would probably buy IWDEE as the EE series is "popularly priced".

I think Beamdog should try releasing their own expansion for BG: EE or BG2: EE, if possible, and see how the reception is. If everyone loves it, move on to BG3. If not, stick to overhauling old games.

I've always enjoyed the Baldur's Gate games more then Planescape, so just based on that i would rather see Baldur's Gate 3.
Granted, i can't see a continuation of the story/character - the Baldur's Gate universe should be large enough to create something pretty intressting.

The most fun parts of rpgs is the beginning when your always low on , gear and skills, for some odd reason i seem to lose abit of intresst in some cases when im waking around with so much gold i could buy the earth twice and enough gear to outfit the worlds population :p

What about an all new IP or a Ravenloft game?

Curious of Ravenloft. But I've only heard of heartbroken characters that can't escape.

Let me throw a curveball here - how about a follow-up to ToEE (minus the bugs in the original game)?

    Do want BG3.

Because we already have a perfect version of PST when modded to the necessary extent (i.e. instructions at GOG).

A poll is needed for this, I guess.

I think the idea would be a whole new PS:T-like game, not just a PST:EE (although I'd probably buy that too).

I don't think that BG needs a sequel.

Baldur's Gate 3 but I don't know how they will handle Charname and the whole Bhaalspawn stuff since you are now technically the last Bhaalspawn after ToB. I don't know what they could do to add to the tale already without it coming off as cheesy or even worst tarnishing the series.

I'd prefer BG3. I haven't played PS:T and I want to experience another BG game.

Get on GOG right now my friend and give them your money, trust me when I say you won't regret it :D

BG3 but in name only. No more Bhaalspawn. That is over and done with. Start a new adventure with a new character.

Don't worry, I'll get round to it. From what I've heard it sounds like I'll like it.

By the time a potential BG3 comes out, we'll be on to D&D: Next surely?

And do you think it would be better?

I've mostly boycotted DnD 4e and stuck with 3.5 and Pathfinder. 5th edition is suppoedly coming out in the near future.

I prefer PS:T, which is why I want a Baldur's Gate sequel. I can't imagine a game could ever exceed PS:T, so lets keep it closed.

I would enjoy a lot of the 4th ed things, like casters not having to sleep 16 hours a day just to fight for 10 seconds.

Anyway I feel like planescape torment was its own story. The nameless one did his thing, and that was that. I would be fine with a brand new story, that maybe goes to sigil, but I don't need to see all the same characters and stuff

I'd like another game set in the PS:T universe. Not necessarily using any of the previous (companion) characters, and definitely NOT using Nameless One. The PS:T story is done and good as it is. Something else, with a new protagonist (that can be lady or dude, which is important in choice-driven RPGs in this age, imo) would be very welcome.

I wouldn't mind BG3, but after a decade+ I think I am happy enough with the series starting in BG1 and ending in ToB. Now, if they wish to add many more varied companions, more dialogues, more friendships/romances, more plots, more side-adventures, more personal stories for our companion friends, etc. etc., then I am all on board for that! But have it be contained within the scope of the BG series as it is right now.

Baldur's Gate 2 is indisputably my favorite computer game of all time and I would very much like there to be a sequel, especially a sequel where I can continue to play as my same PC and with my same party. I'd like the chance to play the adventures mentioned in the epilogues for my favorite NPCs.

I've never played Planescape Torment. From what I've read it sounds like a fun game and I certainly wouldn't mind there being a sequel, but if I had to choose either that or a Baldur's Gate 3, I would definitely choose Baldur's Gate 3.

Or alternatively, a game that had no story line similarity to either game, but that could have parties imported from Baldur's Gate, Planescape Torment, and Icewind Dale would also be fun.

I don't really want either. I think both games wrapped up perfectly. I just want another 2D CRPG in the infinity engine. I'm sorry, did I say "another?" I meant to say dozens. Hundreds. Dozens of hundreds.

A new game would really be best for everyone, if only because a PST2 or BG3 would invite too many comparisons to the prior games. And, honestly, after all the flak Overhaul has gotten for such minor issues in BGEE, how well do you think gamers would react to a BG3? It would never, never live up to gamer expectations.

But if they made a CRPG with the Infinity Engine, with their own newly-drawn backgrounds and sprites and the same level of quality as the writing in BGEE's extra content... we'd be looking at a GOTY contender. And, possibly, the dawn of the new roleplaying renaissance we never got with NWN.

While I'd like another game in something like the Infinity Engine, I really don't think actually continuing to use the Infinity Engine to make new games is a good idea. I mean just look at how much time the Overhaul team has put into getting it working smoothly on modern machines, and even then there's still plenty of issues. I've heard them mention numerous times what a battle it is to deal with the old and convoluted beast that is the IE. A new engine wouldn't necessarily have to be a state of the art graphics powerhouse or anything, just something that's actually designed with modern tools for modern equipment.

Honestly I would much prefer Ravenloft or Dragonlance even! Just...something different.

The guy who can write a Torment sequel is currently making another old school RPG; which sounds good enough to me to be honest, since Wizards will probably force 5th edition down any developer's throat for a license nowadays.
